Why is that?
Accidents can happen to ANY watch. Most of those would not be covered by the Rolex warrenty anyway.

I get a thrill out of babying my watches. My watches are in such good shape that I can hear the crisp closing of the clasp. On the sd16600s, I can feel the newness of the watch because I hardly wear them .... I get as much fun looking at them and holding them as wearing them.
If I was a millionaire or billionaire, then I would wear them 24/7 and if there was a single scratch I found, then I would buy a new one ... but that's a fantasy ... In reality, I just can not bring myself to wear my collection on a daily basis and make it look used and scratchy .. I would die and leave behind a new looking collection of watches in excellent condition and that's ok by me .... So take care of your watches guys and gals...a watch, no matter what the brand, only looks good if it is in good shape....A nice shiny seiko would always look better than a beat up scratched up submariner.. |

I'm not necessarily abusing my watches, but I'm not babying them either. If you don't wear them I can't comprehend how you can enjoy get enjoyment from owning. They are made to last and if they get scratched up so what the next service will take care of it. But hey if that works for you by all means. I just wouldn't have watch that I could not wear regularly. |

It seems like most of them were not-worn and victims of gravity, inertia and tile. At least, those can be prevented.
Don't forget to safely park your piece. |

I never take any watch off in a bathroom. The only place I will remove my watch is in the bedroom over the mattress & then it goes in a rolex pouch.

Yup, safer on the wrist. I can't imagine not wearing my watches as much as I can. My sub doesn't feel new anymore but just feels broken in and a part of my wrist at this point.

The very first photo is almost exactly what my Daytona looked like after a face-down plunge onto my tile shower floor. Unfortunately, the Zenith movement is a non-hacking type, and a shard got between the hands and dial and left a very faint blemish. I decided to leave the tritium dial alone since the subdials have a nice light brown patina going.

Fwiw, I wear my watch road cycling (during the summer months I use an Everest rubber strap) and my watch is insured. I only have had one accident whereby the watch got smashed, but that was over 20 years ago (watch was in my pocket and I played superman over the hood of a car that turned left in front of me).
I created the Ouch page because I would see these images, but could not find them again later for cross referencing in other posts. A painful page to review, but yes, most of the accidents were because of gravity and movable forces hitting immovable objects. By and large, I wear my watch in most conditions unless the situation will break my arm. -Sheldon

Wow, I thought one of my DJ's looked bad after hitting the pavement. Some of those watches are in horrible condition.

Amazing how much damage is done on the bathroom floor.
The obvious solution is to stop going to the bathroom...
