Insuring your Rolex (UK)
Guys,
I'm currently living in London and am wary about being mugged for my watch if I happen to stumble into the wrong place. Have any of you insured your Rolex and if so, who with and for how much? It's a 2008 Submariner (16610 M Series). Thanks in advance,

It depends on your insurance provider and appraisal value of your watch. Highly recommend insuring your watch.

Thanks, looking for people in the UK to share their experiences. I'm working on the basis that it would cost me c.£5000 to replace.

Use Hiscox - they are the by far the best.
Personal possessions each worth up to £15,000 are automatically covered without having to specifically list each one (as long as the combined value is within your personal possession limit). |

Are you in rented accommodation and need independent jewellery insurance, or do you own your property and want to add it to contents?

Aviva also cover up to £25k all risks and you just list items over £1,000.

Cheers guys - got a few quotes online and went with Direct Line - cost c.£400p.a. for a joint policy with my girlfriend and covers my watch up to £5,000 at home and away from home. Obviously not ideal in a few years as the value goes up, but for now should be fine.
Thanks again.

Errrr. Why wouldn't you insure something that has that value? Forget being mugged but what about just plain old falling over and breaking it..... Years back I fell and landed on the crown of a GMT and the watch stem was knackered, bezel was chipped and I'd managed to dent the case too, insurance fixed it good as new...no mugger involved. All my watches are itemised and covered with my personal possessions insurance, including serial numbers Incase they do get stolen.

I am also based in London. TH Marsh are really good, when I lost my watch they replaced it with another in a matter of days . Highly recommended.

I would really like to know how did you prove you lost it and that you weren't just trying to get a free watch? Always wanted to know how and if insurance will really pay for lost or stolen watches. Thanks!

If you want stand alone insurance thats just for the watch...all risks and away from home try t h marsh....they specalise in watch/jewellery insurance.
You will need a current valuation. I just paid £120 to insure £8050 deepsea as it was more than the max single item on my home insurance and a lot cheaper than the extra they wanted to add it. Over the years ive now paid equivelent of a new rolex in premiums and never claimed for anything but the day you dont have it it will be sods law. |
