I've been buying and selling on Craigslist for years. It can be done, but you have to know the brand really well and know what questions to ask. Until you're a Rolex WIS, I would agree with the others to avoid CL. However, once you've gained a vast amount of knowledge, you can find some amazing deals on CL (you do have to search for them, but I think that's part of the fun).
As others have said, I would hold off on purchasing anything right now. Get to know the brand and the differences between the Subs (solid end links, WG hour markers, tritium, ect...). Once you're familiar with the models you can decide which best fits your needs. |

So the sellers on this site are all very legitimate? Everybody seems to only have good things to say about it? Some of the listings seem like pretty good deals too... I would like to get a sub or even gmt master II in black/ss as close to new condition as possible with boxes and all paperwork for less than $5k.

Seriously, buy from a known seller here and you will not regret it. DavidSW is great to work with as I have twice. Pay now or pay later...peace of mind is nice.
Best of luck to you

I would stay away. I'll pm you something really disturbing. Just to get an idea how crazy good the fakes are getting these days.

If someone selling a Rolex has still the box in nice condition, saved a link of the bracelet, and has the tool to remove the case back then they should also know enough to provide pictures of all the papers and hang tags as well. They would have kept them with the box and should have shown them in the pictures without having to be asked.
This seems shady, and I'm just learning about this stuff. Follow the advice above... these folks know what they're talking about. |

1. Buy the seller first, the watch second 2. Buy a Rolex when you can afford to buy a Rolex 3. If it seems too good to be true, it is And remember, whilst the money you save buying from an unproven source can buy you a good bed, it can't buy you a good nights sleep.

Welcome to TRF.
I hope you will join the forum and the wealth of information it provides. You really have 2 choices in my opinion. Buy a new watch from a Rolex AD and beg for a discount and/or a no interest payment plan. Buy from a recognized and trusted seller on TRF. You can check out their references in the who's who section of the TRF classifieds. I very strongly advise that you stay away from ebay, pawn shops and craigs list. Since you are new to this, it may be a long time before you realize that you did not get what you paid for when you shop outside of the Rolex ADs and TRF "trusted sellers". Enjoy the hunt! |

Welcome. Purchase here or from Bob's watches. I've done 2 on ebay but purchased the seller each time first, and used pay pal. Alway's here now or Bob's Watches if one is unavailable from my favorite seller DavidSW.

I was in the same position as you.
If you are that worried, save up and buy new. This is supposed to be a celebration and not a worry filled nightmare. I bought new from an ad. Yeah I paid more but I'm happy. And in the end it's all about what makes you happy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

By the looks of the rehaut and the movement, I'm really worried. The rehaut looks a bit slanted. It should be almost 90 degree angle (perpendicular) from the dial. That looks like it's slanted to a 50-60 degree angle. Also, the movement. I would ask for another photo with the rotor in a different position. I bought my pre-owned explorer II from one of the members on TRF. That is where I would go. Check out the classifieds on this forum.

If you decide to go the AD route shoot me a PM and I can give you the name of a salesperson and AD here in Charlotte that is very professional and not pushy at all.

Take your time and don't rush things no matter how tempted to move! You might also consider going for a pre owned from an AD. For your first time out, this might work well for you, in that you get a chance to look over what you are buying plus no real worries about authenticity or quality. You might pay slightly more than some other sources but could still save on new list price.

Stay away from Craigslist? Look at the many "trusted sellers" on this forum. If they don't have exactly what you're after, they'll find one for you at quite likely a better price. Good luck and welcome.
