He gets a check from Rolex to wear their watches.

If Omega wrote him a bigger check, he would be sitting there with an Omega on his wrist.

In fact a few years ago people may remember Kyle Stanley lost an 8 shot lead at Torrey Pines and then came back the next week and won in Phoenix trailing by 8 in the last round. I know 1st hand that Phil pulled Stanley aside before the Phoenix tournament and gave him a serious pep talked and played a practice round with him and lo and behold he won his first tour event.
I'd heard that too about Phil, the rumor in the clubhouse being that his public persona is maybe not so genuine, that he's not the same guy the public thinks he is or that his public image comes off as calculated. I don't think he hangs out that much with the other tour members either. Don't know how true any of this is.

Personally I like him. He always seems to be available for autographs and interviews, he's a dedicated family man, and his charity work is pretty impressive.

He's got to be popular here though, Remember when he hit that shot into the gallery and broke a guy's watch, went over to the guy, peeled off $200 and gave it to him? Of course, it would have been cooler if he took his own Rolex off and handed it to the guy. Cooler still if it he did that and it had been me. But it did make me wonder if Rolex would have been a little displeased or appreciated the publicity. That incident did get played up in the media pretty good.

I like watching lefty play, regardless of any speculation about his character, which is laughable anyways. I wish they paid me to wear Rolex. Better yet, I wish I was bubba and they paid me to wear RM or rory and AP cut me checks to wear royal oaks...
