Have a Nikon dslr, an 8mp camera phone, and 35mm Casio P & Shoot. The Casio just went in for repair. Originally, this camera was around $300 new (a very good P&S). The repair quote just came in at $139: needs a mother board and new lens--it was stuck. So I authorized the repair. Did I rationalize too much 'bout this? A new cheap camera costs between $59-$99, without all the bells and whistles. One equipped like the 3 year old Casio is between$249-$389. With all the photography I've been doing lately, I will use the casio around 30% of the time. Would you have gone through with the repair or would you have just paid another $100-$150 for a newer model?

Get the new Canon S120 announced today, that will be one of the better pocketable P&S out there, and the S-line is very proven. I've owned both S90 and S95 (kids keep breaking them).

Now I use a Fuji X100s instead, a very special type of camera.

Since the camera is already 3yrs old, I'd just get a new one with better features/specs for a little more.

I have the S95 and it's a great little camera but the S120 isn't out for a couple of months and will be around $450

FYI, by stating 35mm, you are referring to a full frame sensor, I don't believe anyone makes a full frame "point and shoot". Point and Shoot cameras have smaller crop sensors.

Cannon 5d and Leica M rangefinders are examples of 35mm sensors.

I just bought a very pocketable Sony RX100M2. Takes amazing pictures and the wide angle end of the small zoom is 24 mm and F1.8! The problem is it costs a lot more than the repair of your Casio.

Camera bodies need to be upgraded every few years, so personally I would have bought a new camera. Have you had a look at the Panasonic LX7 mate?

Strictly speaking it's not a 35mm prime, but it has a 35mm equivalent of 24-90mm at a constant aperture of f/1.4. Awesome!

It's a bit more expensive than a Casio, but well worth it in my opinion (you're capturing memories after all!). If you'd like to spend more than the Panasonic still, then the RX100M2 that incontrol mentioned fits the bill.

Gents, I will look at the Sony and the Panasonic. I can always give the rebuilt Casio to my daughter who wants a new pocket camera. Thanks!

Canon S95...best camera for the money! I bought new, I will never change it with another digital point and shoot. it does everything and it's simple to use. You can't go wrong withe S95

My Canon S95 developed a fungus ball in the center of the lens, so I just bought the S110. It has the largest sensor of any pocket point-and-shoot. It also edits photos and has Wi-FI and HDR capabilities. I really like the S series of Canons. My spouse has the S100.
