I have an Explorer I too. Such a classic watch. Great choice. As far as what to know there is such much to learn. One thing I will say is that the forum here is filled with some amazing people. You will really like the community. Congrats and welcome!!

Welcome, You have chosen a very nice watch to start off with. And you have gotten a good stat into the world of fine watches by reading all you can find. To me the appreciation and joy of owning fine watches is heighten by knowledge. Also by interacting with people that have the same interest.

This is great - this thread makes me realize that our conversations must sound like some encrypted code to non-watch enthusiasts. Consider the following dialogue:
"Hello fellow WIS. Say, do you prefer a Paul Newman or a Steve McQueen? I love the 1655, but it's much easier to find a 16570 or a 216570. I also love the GMTIIC BLNR, but prefer BCL's to PCL's, so I use a 93250 with SEL's from a 16610. Of couse you cant go wrong with a Fat Lady Coke, a Pepsi or a Root Beer. And if I had the money, I'd get a RedSub, a Milsub, or a DRSD (which has a HEV), or even a Destro, especially if it has a Ghost Fat Font insert. And FWIW, a Smurf beats a Hulk any day of the week." And whatever you do, never EVER be caught using the word Batman around here! |

Yes and even to ADs. Chris, GMT MASTER, and I were talking at his ADs about a watch and his sales partner overheard us say the ole "buy what sings to you" and she thought it was a really beautiful expression, while me and Chris looked at each other and said - "yeah I suppose it is when you don't use it every other day!"

I got my first Rolex yesterday, a 16610 Submariner, but I'm already looking for an Explorer I - I think it's the perfect dress watch.
