Why are YOU here…???
It occurred to me the other day, while reading a few posts, that not everyone who comes to this site for the same reasons I do…
Not that that matters one bit… There are a number of reasons I visit this site, but the biggest reason is simple…To share what I enjoy with people who enjoy the same thing… I have only one close friend who is "into" watches…The rest of my friends and family have no interest what so ever…So here I am… I also find it interesting that on the vast majority of "Posts", you get a less then 10% response rate…On many posts it's less then 5%… I would guess that some people come here looking to have a specific question or questions answered, some come to have a value put on a watch they own, some come to buy and sell… So I'm curious…Why are YOU here…??? |

Same here, love being able to converse with "like minded" people. TRF is an amazing site, we all pretty much understand each other here and it's fantastic to learn new things about our passion as well as being able to impart opinions and information about watches, Rolex in particular.

Initially I came to seek expert advice on whether a rolex I was looking at was genuine or not a couple years ago. I came back to seek the same advice a couple weeks ago b/c I was looking at making a deal for a vintage 5513. I made the deal...and I started browsing the various forums to learn more about not just my watch but rolexes in general and I must say that it's a great community of rolex/watch lovers and I foresee participating a lot more in the future.

I enjoy the like thinking people here. I don't have a friend that's into watches.
My kids enjoy the watches I have given them but have no real knowledge of watches and no interest in collecting. |

Because of BO :)
Vintage is a minefield. VFR helps a lot but is IMHO more for the "Pros". Here it's my english forum (instead of my usual German speaking Forums I hang around).

I was given my fathers 5508 which was in need of restoration. Luckily, I stumbled upon TRF while educating myself on the best way forward.
Great people, great advice and an amazing wealth of knowledge keep me coming back. |

Great post Clay!
Just enjoying the evolving process of learning, not only about watches but also the many different type of people and their shared experiences...it has truly been, with rare exception, a wonderful experience. But this was my first thought: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HiIZLDe...%3DHiIZLDeMOg0 |

I looked to others to help me navigate the dangerous waters we have come to know as vintage watch collecting. I like to pay that generosity forward. I see many people write, "Make sure you do plenty of homework." You just can't do enough homework on your own to know as much as someone who has been doing it for a long time. So, I try to speed up the process when possible.
I am sometimes surprised as well that some threads don't get more posts. I think time constraints play a factor. Another reason may be you only need a couple knowledgable people to tell the OP that the watch in question posted with an eBay link is fake. I do enjoy the thought provoking threads because it kind of gives you a glimpse in to how people feel about certain issues.

I want people to help me justify my absolutely insane behavior of collecting watches that I really shouldn't be buying. Lol. Nobody close to me is really into watches like I am. So this forum is good at enabling me.
If my friends and co workers knew how much money I was spending on watches, they would probably have me sent to the funny farm by now. GH

I was sending iMessages discussing one of the threads here on TRF Vintage in real-time last night as I posted in several of the threads. I was exchanging messages with a member of TRF. This is a member here that I have never met face-to-face, but we share similar tastes in vintage Rolex watches. That is how far my watch obsession has gone.
For me, it started with a fascination of automatic watches and the timekeeping ability that they possess. I started with Breitling and Doxa (modern) and actually loathed Rolex because of what I thought of the average Joe owner of a Rolex watch. I first delved into modern Rolex and have slowly began to migrate towards vintage Rolex. Although I buy both vintage Rolex and Tudor as well as modern Tudor and Rolex, I ABSOLUTELY PREFER vintage of both. It is nice to be a part of a community that 'gets it'
