Hi,
I have an Oyster Perpetual Datejust, Stainless Steel, Model 1603 bought in the UK in 1968.

I have owned the watch since new. It has been storage for 25 years, and now it does not run.
I would like to get it running and presume it needs an overhaul. Have looked briefly on Ebay and find several people offering to service it for $200 and up. Can I depend on watch servicers on Ebay, what do you guys recommend. Money is tight and it is my intention to sell the watch once it is running.
I had 3 links removed back in 68 and of course I can't find them now. I assume they will need to be replaced to get the watch back original condition.
There are no scratches on the glass and exterior condition is very good.
Can anyone give me a ballpark value for the watch in running condition.
Advice greatly appreciated.

It's probably worth a couple of thousand in running condition..

You would be wasting your money on a 200 dollar service. Find somebody who is CW21 certified and works on Rolex.. It will cost quite a bit more but be properly done..

TRF member Vanessa from Calif is also another choice to service your DJ.

It looks well worn, it must have been a daily wearer up until putting it away!
Just find an independent watchmaker to service it. They are a simple piece to work on.

Wasn't there a thread in the Watchout section about some one using a "watchmaker" from Ebay, and having their watch and the money go missing.........hmmmmm
Rule of thumb for me and most here........stay away from Freakin ebay.....

If you are going to sell after servicing it, I would think getting it done by an authorized rolex repair facility would be the way to go, as this would be a huge selling point, especially on vintage pieces. Ideally RSC would be the way to go so that you get all the trailing paper work with it from rolex, squashing any doubt on its authenticity...just my 2 cents.
