Box papers help with fakes but as there are ways to authenticate or post pics on the forums this is not such a big deal. But for stolen Rolexes there is no way to know, no public or AD database, and once Rolex have the watch from you and if it is reported stolen, either for real or as a common scam, you will automatically lose it. So as really the only possible protection against this possibility, other than insurance, they are actually very valuable.

Again, condition of the watch is #1, but I prefer the complete set.

I would suggest that for the majority of buyers, (we're not all dealers, are we) buying a Rolex is about the whole experience, opening those boxes studying the booklet etc.
As far as I am aware Rolex don't sell their watches in a brown paper bag. Why not, do you think? No, we don't really need the box, and it shouldn't really add (much) to the value but without it we would all miss that delicious Rolex box smell. Wouldn't we? |
