What about a day rental, Say you had a big event and you wanted some bling or a very high end watch, say you had to make a good impresion and you have the car the tux the shoes but wanted the watch to finish it off? Or a week rental or a month to month so you could switch the watches?

As bad as a car lease is, it makes more sense than leasing a watch. The maintenance costs on a car, included in the lease, are considerable, especially the more desirable models. The maintenance on a watch, by comparison, is pretty minor, once every five years or so. And the watch goes forever, unlike the car, unless you dump incredible sums on it.

Nope, buy the Rolex, don't lease it. Not even close.

I'm not too big on the leasing idea. Ends up being more $$ in the end. I'd just save up my money until I could afford one, then buy it...

A lease is really a loan and nothing more. It is usually more expensive than a traditional loan. Lease to own is popular in working class neighborhoods. They lease to own TV and any other appliances at a 25% interest rate. That would be illegal if it were a regular loan but because one will supposedly own the item at some point it time they get away with it.

A car can be considered a necessity and borrowing money to get one is normal. A watch on the other hand should be saved for and when one has the money buy it.

The only thing that one can borrow to buy and make money is real estate 90% of the time. 99% if one has the time to ride out if one buys just before a correction as the US is experiencing at this point in time.

I'm pretty anal about not financing toys in any way shape or form. I paid cash for my Porsche, Rollies, and pools in out two homes over the past few years. I had a younger buddy of mine who wanted a bluesy like mine and told me that somewhere in Tallahassee had 12 months same as cash. Personally I just don't think I'd enjoy my watches as much knowing there was a payment attached.
