Confusing GMT Master 1959 Superlative 1675?

Greetings,

My friend recently inherited this GMT Master which has been waiting 30 years in a safe.
Serial number (1018xxx) puts it at a 1959 according to the various charts.
The case says 1675.
Plexi.
Small GMT hand.
Superlative dial.

Can anyone help me tell him what he has?

Any help would be appreciated.

It looks like a very nice gilt underline dial 1675, probably from 1963-64 or so (by the dating charts I use most often). It is the last dial variation before tritium began to be noted on the dial below 6:00 (SWISS only here), just after the chapter ring dial. Very nice to have original dial and hands. It also looks like it might have a pointed crown guard case. The insert is newer, but all-in-all very desirable.

Our chart would put it at ~1964, as above. This one should have a date stamp inside the case-back to confirm.

I'd say early 60s too. Appears to me to have pointed crown guards. Could be a very nice find methinks......

I like it! Early 60's and great patina. Good inheritance piece.

No more offers to buy please. This is a family heirloom. He has no interest in selling

Thanks for the responses about the watch.

very nice - I think perhaps the bezel insert was changed at some point before it went in the safe for 30 years

Nothing has been done to it since it has emerged. I advised him to have it serviced but not polished. He ordered a nato and new spring bars and plans to wear it.

It might look very nice on one of Jed's brown shell cordovan straps as well.

Stunning GMT, however, it is from around '63/'64.
Your friend has a very nice watch.
