Tudor subs
My four cool Tudor subs. I guess they still only make me an apprentice in the Rolex watch world, but I do covet them and at least I am on the ladder, albeit the bottom rung. A good vintage Rolex sub is on the cards and I feel sure one will show up locally eventually, as did all these Tudors. I do like to see them before buying, you just don't get the same buzz geting them from a cyber shop imo. The top one is a 1961 7928 with the Rolex 390 movement, the left one is a black dial 7016/0, the right one is a blue dial 9401/0 and the bottom one is blue dial 9411/0. |

Run?, sorry Chris, not quite sure which you mean, like in movement or in price - the movements are all ETA except for the top one wich has a Rolex 390 movement. Prices tend to be up around $1500-$2000.00 U.S these days for good original examples.

What is a Rolex 390 movement and was it a custom put inside the tudor or was it a limited edition tudor with a Rolex movement> What s the history of the 390?

I am not that familiar with them (yet) Mikey, but I am sure there are more learned members on here that will enlighten us. From my limited knowledge, I think they were produced by Rolex for the earlier Tudor subs and changed to the ETA movent in the early 70's. The link below does help with the different models but not much on the 390 movement. http://forumamontres.forumactif.com/...c.forum?t=1013 |

I've seen many which approach Sub Date values. They are very stealth and probably have a greater military history. I'd love to have an example some day.

Beautiful Collection
I wish I could have a snowflake one. Maybe I might break down and get one too.
I bought a blue bezel/dial Sub, the very last in the line of Rolex look-alikes. Even though it's only about 10 years old with saphire crystal and mercedes hands, I still like the Tudors that were modeled after Rolex designs. From what I hear, there will never be any more Rolex look-alikes made, so one day any of these could become a bigger collectors item. The Subs go for a minimum around $2,000 here, with the blue ones on average priced slightly higher. I hear that Tudor watches aren't well known in the States and not being sold there. Anyone know why? |

Nothing bottom rung about those Subs Phil.
That is a very nice collection Some dealers in the UK are pricing excellent condition Tudor subs with B&P at 16010 prices and selling them |

A lovely quartet of very collectable Tudor Subs Phil I'm a big fan of Tudor's as well.
Do you wear them all on the rubber straps? - Neil PS - hows the 'flying brick' going?

Early models used a modified Fleurier 350 caliber, branded the Tudor 390 caliber. These are often mistaken as Rolex movements as they shared a similar rotor winding device. During the mid to late 1960’s Rolex switched to another manufacturer, ETA to supply the base movements for their watches.
