Another "thoughts on this 5513" thread
So I've been looking for about a month now, and I think I have a much better idea of what to look for. What are everyone's thoughts on this one?
http://www.network54.com/Forum/20767...513+Submariner Is the price too high? I think I can work the seller down a little bit, but I want to at least know if it's in the right ballpark. I'm slightly worried about the insert's authenticity (maybe for no good reason), as from what I've read the fat font "kissing 40" inserts ended around the mid-60s, and this is a 1970 5513. The lugs look good and not overly polished, the dial and hands match and are exactly the shade of patina that I want. |

Watch has indeed been polished. Price is bit on the high side but I assume with some haggling that can be solved. All by all a decent example.

looked at this myself and thought it to be rather pleasing for a daily beater.
on that note need to see pics in natural light so the dial can be closer examined.

Crown guards have lost that square, chunky look from polishing. That would bug me. Otherwise, looks pretty good. That's a nice insert on it. As long as it's an authentic Rolex insert, I wouldn't worry about it. Good luck either way.

I am no where near a expert on inserts and have been wrong before...but that insert just looks kind of odd. Font seems fatter then usual. Could be the pictures. Pip matches perfect

Looks kind of like this one, no?
Supposedly this would have been found on an early 60's 5512? Maybe? I'm still new to all this, but I had the same feeling about the insert. |

Personally, I'd pass because of the case, but it appears to be a good-looking 5513 otherwise.
I reckon the insert is genuine - and a very nice bonus. |

The insert could be fine. It just seems wierd that the condition is so perfect for a insert that old. Then again the insert could of been replaced with a older NOS insert. I'm hoping some real experts can chime in because I'm interested in learning. It's a beautiful watch regardless

Very nice 5513. Mine is from the same year and I paid $4300 Cdn two months ago but I think I got a super good deal. The band on this one looks like it is in better condition than mine. Good luck!

I've seen overbuffed examples like these go for well under $5K.
At nearly $6K, you shouldn't settle for anything that's been buffed.

Are the hands original? Says original+tritium in the ad but they look very shiny and new in the pictures, for a watch 40+ years old.
