"Safe Queens" - Who Here Actually Has One?

I know some people buy and preserve a watch to pass down for a special occassion (i.e., child's graduation, wedding, etc.). I have also heard of others who keep a Safe Queen in hopes of the watch appreciating in value, but who here actually has a BNIB in the vault, and how much longer do you plan on keeping it that way?

Went to a GTG a couple of years ago. A fellow forum member actually bought 3 BNIB Rolex's at the AD we went to. He had no intention on wearing them. He said he was going to re-sell them at a later date. Explained that they would appreciate more than he could make with other investments.

Not me.

I wear everything I own. I have my fathers and grandfathers watches that they wore. They mean so much more to me that way than if they had been just sitting in a box for years with no history or events.

My son will get my watches as worn and he can remember when I bought them, where I wore them and how I used them!

The explorer I recently acquired was reported a queen. It was worn a few times, but for a decade old plus piece, it has lost ZERO time since I strapped it on a few days ago. The bracelet is clean, and came with all paperwork, including the carbon copied AMEX reciept, LOL.

Clearly a better watch buyer than investor!

No Safe Queens here. I plan on passing my watches down to my three children one day but I wear them all and will continue to do so until that day.

As Rolex raises prices and inflation devalues currency, news cost more thereby dragging prices of older ones higher.

Not me. Wear them all. It would drive me crazy to have a new watch I couldn't wear.

I know a guy that purchased 3 16610LV's back in 2005 and it worked out well for him when he sold them recently

I don't have any safe queens. But neither do I buy to resell. I keep and wear everything I buy, from my 5 figure YG DD to my $100 Casio.

after the initial ,,, there old and need serviced ,,, and , too many of them about , or ,,, too dear i can get one for half that ,,,,
i doubt the investment potential , unless it was a prince or something interesting , that was why i asked .... good luck to him genuinely ,, but ,,, premium bonds would have gotten my cash

Another here without any safe queens, I buy to wear and wear alone. A Rolex IMO is certainly not an investment

I still have a pocket watch ticking away that my Great Grandfather bought on the day that my Grandfather was born back in 1895.
In money terms, the watch is worth next to nowt, in terms of history and memories to me, it's Priceless.

I do,,,,,,,,,,,,,out of 8 watches I have ..I have only worn 2 so far , i buy the watches i like and they will be worn , at some stage,,,,,,,,,, i don't plan to sell any ,,,,,,,,,,,I will give 3 watches away to grand children , when they are older.
the 2 watches i wear are , ss Daytona [ white ] and gmt blnr.

I have a safe but it's full of peashooters and silver. The watches have to fend for themselves out in the winder boxes.....none of them are BNIB....

I may have some at some point.
I keep catching myself looking for Tudor Mini-Subs and Lady-Subs to buy for my kids. But they are both much too young now. But if I come across some nice examples I might just go for it and then they will sit until they have the kids have the right age.

I like to be able to put a trailing stop on my investments if possible so I don't have any safe queens. If a watch I bought to enjoy happens to appreciate (as my panerais have) great, but I don't think it's a very wise investment for investment's sake. I think 100 shares of SPY is a much better way to park $18K for the next 10 years than a watch will be.

Especially last year when the S&P 500 was up almost 30%!

Not me. I wear mine and don't have any intention of selling any. I take care of my stuff for me and not for the benefit of some future owner. I'll only buy what I love and want to wear.

That being said I do have "safe queens." These are older watches that I have retired from my rotation but have sentimental value so I'll never get rid of them.

Deceased Great grandfather’s Hamilton pocket watch
Deceased Grandfather’s Seiko
Deceased Father’s daily beater
My AP 15400 will be added to this list along with my wife's Lady RO that I got for our wedding.

These will all be passed on to our future children so I'll keep them as "safe queens" until then.

I have one, a pocket watch that belonged to my Great, Great Grandfather (?). It is gold, heavy, and big with no name on the face. He was in Prussia and it has an inscription in German that I think says for 35 years of service, dated 1850. It does not run or I might use it. It has been in the family so long I am very leery about letting it out of my sight to have it repaired.
