Many of us are frustrated with ROLEX

with their new Pepsi GMT in gold. For many of us especially their loyal customers, were hoping to see a Pepsi in stainless not gold. Unfortunately it is out of reach $$$ for many of us and can only dream about having one. What is the consensus on a Pepsi GMT stainless steel or should we keep dreaming.

The new GMT really means nothing to me as it's out of my reach financially. I would love to have it. But I don't obsess over items I can't afford.

In my opinion - it's not gonna happen. Rolex effectively killed all hope of it when they brought out the WG BLRO in black dial. There is no other model that I can think of that Rolex has ever offered in both WG and SS with the same bezel AND dial - i.e. that essentially looked like the same watch.

I always find it funny when a group of a handful of OCD watch collectors think they can influence the marketing strategy of a billion dollar company....
Rolex knows exactly what they are doing.......

They will sell everyone they ever make. As I've always said, if you have to ask, you can't afford it.

Like I said before ...

Rolex slapped all the regular collectors of there watches in the face when they decided to put the iconic "Pepsi" version in WG. It's one hell of a marketing decision, but for the regular collector that's been waiting for this iconic combo to come out...,they were the ones that we're let down.

Me personally, I hope they don't get an idea for them to bring out the "Coke" in platinum. I can handle the 25-35k price tag for something I truly want..and even that's pushing it...but for 70-80k and it doesn't say Patek, or A. Lang ....I'll pass.

The new PepC is simply an aspirational time piece. A few collectors will be able to afford it, but most of us wouldn't. Those that cannot afford it will be able to dream about it for years, save up for it, and perhaps one day get it. Rolex had a grail piece that many of us kept dreaming about it, demanding Rolex to make it -- and Rolex simply decided to make it as a grail piece that most of us will still only able to dream about it. It's a cruel world, but how come people don't complain when a steel Nautilus costs more than a gold Sub? :) Or when a "simple" manual-wound Patek chrono costs more than a platinum Day-Date II? Rolex keeps moving up on the haute horlogerie ladder, chasing AP and Patek. They need more and more grail pieces, more and more "unattainable" watches in their lineup to further raise the prestige and value of the brand. My $0.02, next up: platinum Sub.

But as long as there're many beautiful vintage pieces out there, any of us could get a Pepsi for a sub-$10K price any day. And I'm sure BaselWorld 2015 will bring the SS GMT IIC "Coke".

Rolex saw a void on TRF, the "WG PepC/BLRO Owners Club." It's a lovely piece, but if I could, I'd rather get a RO or DD YG for that amount of money. The older model suits me just fine. It is LOVELY though. They should've done it in PLAT if you ask me, just SMASH the walls.

I love the Pepsi, both the original and the new one, but I think I would stick with my 16710 BLRO and my 116710 LN and buy another great piece for that money.
For many this WG piece is wanted because of the New Release, but that will wear down.
A lot of people keep mentioning how "iconic" the Pepsi is, but it has never been the most wanted amongst model's.
Don't get me wrong, I love it myself and I have 2 of them, but that love originated way before there was even a discussion if a ceramic Pepsi could be introduced

So, it's a nice watch, but not a must-have for me personally.
I get the same satisfaction from my 16710 BLRO

I can understand the angst but also the need to mark the anniversary of the GMT with a special piece.
The GMT is not on my radar, so I don't have a dog in this fight.
Suppose you could look at the bright side that they didn't mark the anniversary the same way they did the Daytona.......

Here's what I'd do - if you don't already own one, go find a vintage Pepsi with the aluminum insert. There are a host of models out there to choose from. I suspect prices on these are in for a rise, since the new model, combined with its price, has raised the interest level in all things Pepsi. Once you do that, I suspect your angst over the new model may subside a bit.

SS is pretty much out of the question imo.

If my memory is correct, there was a safe queen unworn in the Rolex for sale section a week or so ago.

Does anyone know why they quit making them in the first place?Low sales?Or just Rolex knowing better about what type of watch you really needed to purchase?

It was replaced by the black ceramic model in 2005. At the time, Rolex said that they didn't have the capability to make a bi-color insert in Cerachrom.

I like it. Can't afford it, oh well, me neither. Because I can't afford doesn't make it any less nicer, that watch is fantastic. I don't know about all this loyalty talk, I buy from whoever has the product I like and suits my needs.

I totally agree...this forum has 120K members (and I would bet far far less are even semi-regular visitors)...if every single member bought one new Rolex a year that would only be 15% of their annual production. The true watch enthusiast is not the target.

I do find it a little funny that some people seem to take it as personal affront that it came out in white gold. Like someone was stroking their beard in a big chair in Geneva and decided to do it to screw them specifically...muahahahaha (evil laugh).

It's not personal. How many people (not WIS's) can't afford a vintage base model rolex? Rolex make's luxury watches for those who can afford it. I for one love the new BLRO although I do see it as an end to the GMT being a tool watch. I am happy they brought back the pepsi, and now will figure out how to budget enough to get one. It has just jumped the 116688 as my grail.

I think seeing a red/blue bezel insert on a GMT IIc is now code for WG for those in the know.
