Keep saving for a sub or get a pelagos?

I have posted a question about which watch I should get a few weeks ago but I have decided these two are probably my favorite. Let me quickly introduce my self, I am 16 years old and into watches. I do go scuba diving a few times a year so these two watches would be perfect. I have saved up plenty of money for college, and had a car purchased for me by my parents(which I am very very grateful for). I decided to begin saving for a serious watch(for my age). I have saved about 2,500 so far and continue to save about have of what I earn each year through gifts, chores, and my summer job, which is about 2,000 a year. The other 2,000 I add to more savings for college(which is paid for already but need some spending money.)

So, in about 8 months I could buy a tudor pelagos which would be about Christmas time of my junior year of high school. Or should I wait about 24 months until my spring senior year and purchase a brand new rolex submariner no date ceramic for about 6.5 grand. What are your opinions? Thanks all!

Borrowed pics.

I say save for the Rolex, as it sounds like what you really want. Beware the rest of the responses, though, as they'll most likely be about how you're too young and you should save your money no matter what. #YOLO is what I say.

No, I don't actually say that, but go for the Sub.

I say buy the Tudor for now and then trade up when the time is right.

You will eventually want a Rolex somewhere down the road...so I say, get one as soon as you can and enjoy for the rest of your life. As for other watches, get them along the way, but get the Rolex first...

Have you considered a used 16610? Might be a happy medium between the 2.

I'd go with the SubC, but the pelagos is a great watch. If it had lug holes I'd buy one tomorrow and stop my search for a Sea Dweller.

I have considered that, but one thing I love about these two watches is the clasp. I have see those go on ebay for right between the price of the subc and the pelagos so I might go for a minty one of those. But the subc is just so tempting!!
Thanks for the response!!

This can wait, nothing great can come of having a Rolex in High School. Take that money buy a seiko diver and spend the rest on girls. Trust me on this, you cant get these times and experience back. When you graduate college and get your first good job then buy a Rolex

If I got the rolex, I probably would be a graduation gift to my self and then maybe my parents would chip in on it. Unfortunately right now ain't a girl in my life I can spend the money on. Lol. I would be sure to keep it locked up tight at college when out partying!
Thanks for your advice!

The more I think about it, at 16 I'd get the Pelagos.

I would get the tudor and wear the heck out of it. Get the sub later. I know when I was in high school and college there were many situations I would have worried about wearing a Rolex.

I'd save for the Sub. Its a watch you can wear for the rest of your life in any situation. Just be careful, you seem to be quite a bit more responsible than I was at 16, but I can recall some situations in my youth that I'm glad I didn't have a nice watch on. Oh yeah, and as others have said spend the money on girls and other things you're not legally old enough to do yet.

Well, lots of recommendations for the Sub so far. I say you really need to try both on and decide for your self about how each feels/fits your size wrist. I tried a Pelagos on for size a few months ago and while the appearance was really nice, it wore a bit large (for my tastes) on my wrist and I passed on the opportunity to buy.

the pel and sub-c are so different and saving 8 months at your age is along time that will cut into party cash. you have the right idea but how about a nice used omega smp bond, heuer aquaracer or doxa pro to start and continue to save for a sub-c as you get closer to grad. the pel will never be what your heart really wants and you can always get your $ back on a nice used sub-$2k watch when you need the cash for the sub-c. just my 2c. good luck

I'd get the Pelagos now and wear it hard with no regrets through college. Then buy the Rolex after.

In my opinion there are FAR too many downsides to having a MODERN Rolex so young. Some may suggest the romantic notion of having a Rolex for life and starting that life now, but I feel that that line of thinking reflects a time when the Submariner was not the watch that is is today, and Rolex not the commodity.

Plus as a commodity, learn about having and caring for a fine mechanical with a piece with less of a downside in care and servicing.

In other words, make young person mistakes with the Pelagos. Buy and wear wiser later with the Rolex. And by later I'm not talking about when you reach 40, but only a few years down the road.

The sub new or old is the better watch to have. It is worth saving for. I'd consider the Pelagos as a second watch if you really want it.

Consider getting a used Sub. No need to be in the hook for the depreciation of a new watch at such a young age.

Does it have to be new? What about a 14060m Sub?
