If you're used to bigger watches, it'll just take time... If you've owned 40mm pieces before and you find your wrist to big, like others have noted, get yourself the dssd. As to your jeweler having inside info, highly unlikely. Good luck in your hunt

You should allow your brain to adjust back from the oversized fashion.
It'll take a few days max and from then on you'll enjoy your sub to no end.

I have a 6.5 wrist and a short time, at the height of the big watch craze, I thought 42 to 44 was perfect. I lost sense of proportion and good taste. Even felt the Sub looked too small. Now it is hard to imagine I once thought like this and I know for sure for my wrist 36 mm is perfect.

It seems to me that the question in the original post got the quality of answers it deserved. As do many questions like this.

This is a non-affiliated fan site of mostly anonymous people from all around the world that is being asked what one of the most secretive companies will do about manufacturing a product that does not exist!

What kind of responses would you expect?

And I would really like to know why no one ever calls the company to ask these types of questions?

That's great news! My old eyes have more trouble now, so a 72mm would fit the bill - if the bezel's not too big, of course. I love the idea of being able to pop the back at home and fiddle around with the guts.

True, even if they have always been about the same size the new case definitely makes the watches wear bigger than it's predecessor.


While I doubt it will happen, I wouldn't put anything past Rolex, especially to do something most of us don't think they will do. But right after Basel sure seems an odd time for rumors about new stuff to be flying.

That said, I believe next year is the 100th anniversary of the brand, so some major things may be introduced at the next Basel. I don't see them replacing the current 40mm sport watches but adding say a 42mm model to some of the lines makes some sense from a business standpoint. This kind of horizontal expansion of the product line would take a relatively small R&D investment while increasing the offerings and creating a lot of buzz. At these price points it would probably help sell those customers that aren't quite sure the 40mm fits them, especially when they are comparing a Rolex to the larger offerings of the other brands. There is some precedent given the addition of the II lines to the DD and DJ, though these were probably more urgent given the 36mm size of the originals.

Not sure how much the dealer network would like it though. They don't have the capital of Rolex and would essentially have to double their inventory investment in the sport watches they carry. Doubt that aspect of it would excite them too much.

Sorry, but the Sub does not wear like a 42mm watch.

And I still don't see why people say it's "never" going to happen. They up-sized the Explorer II and Datejust (and Day-Date). Why not the Sub as well?
