I can no longer wear the 40mm Rolex Models...

... Do you have the same problem?

The DSSD, the 42mm Explorer 2, and Panerai has ruined me. The 40mm looks like a woman's watch on my wrist to me now.

I'm sad/happy.

No, but I admit to liking the larger watches (YMII, Pam 111 and a AP Diver being the bigger boys). The 40mm watches are stunning however and enjoy wearing them very much.

I also prefer larger watches however you could never mistake a 16610, 1680 or a 5512 for a ladies watch, no mater how good a woman may look wearing it. JMHO

EXACTLY! While I would NOT call other Rolexes feminine, and candidly I think that is an uninformed (read ignorant) statement. Having said that, the Explorer II's robust 42mm was a factor in me not only buying the watch, but buying it new as used Explorer 42mm's are not marked down that much yet.

While any Rolex seems to be worn by women anymore; more than most, my beloved Daytona seems to have become for many ladies their Rolex go-to watch. Has that stigmatized the Daytona? For some it has. One of my buds calls the Daytona the unisex Rolex. Ouch.

Anyway, this is not a thread that is going to produce right or wrong as the issue the OP raises is highly perception dependent.

Now where did I put my manly GMT-Master II? :-)

DISCLAIMER: I am NOT saying the 40mm's look like a woman's watch. I just meant ON MY WRIST they look too small. I'm still a big fan. I wish I liked them on my wrist, but I just don't any more.

Not even close. IMO very few people should be wearing anything over 42mm. I am really turned off by large watches on small-medium sized wrists. The size of the watch is only relevant in context to the person wearing it.

I like your comment. I actually have the opposite problem. Anything over 41mm (maybe 42mm) would look ridiculous on me to my own eyes. I used to wear Breitling and other big watches for the longest time.

Well tedscott3, the truth of it is the emerging design arc of watches has moved towards bigger for some time now. And this has effected watches at virtually all price points. So what may look perfectly normal to me, may look curiously small to a 26 year old considering his/her first Rolex.

Every time I try on a President, I am surprised by the presence a 36mm watch can have on your wrist. Some day...

36mm-40mm is just right. 42mm and up begins to look silly to me.

I am so terribly sad to hear this tragic news! I will do anything I can to help! I know, box up those pesky 40mm models and send them to me. I promise to provide a good home and then you won't feel guilty seeing them laying there in the watch box, unloved, unworn......

Sure, a college kid's perspective on a watch's size is going to be different than his grandfathers. I certainly know big watches have become trendy over the past few years, but Rolex for the most part has not got involved with that trend. You don't see a 46mm Sub. Some of their models have increased in size, but nothing crazy. My only point is that talking about the size of a watch is like talking about the size of your shirt. At some point people shouldn't wear anything bigger.

I understand your point, and you don't have to apologize to anybody for sharing it.
No matter what some replies are
After wearing a bigger size watch, the 40mm do tend to look smaller, but after a while you are used to it again as a normal size.

Oh, and your post is not ignorant at all. So thanks for sharing your thoughts

"looks like a woman's watch" was a poor choice of words by me. I wasn't in any way calling the watch feminine. I just meant that it now looks to small on my wrist. i still love the watches but i hate that (to me) they look to small. While we are on the subject though, I think a 36mm Date Just is way sexy on a woman.

Actually, there are plastic surgeons who can narrow your wrists to a more normal size. Be a great way to continue wearing the Sub.

This money would be much better spent getting breast implants for my future ex wife.

I felt this way for years, until last fall, when I tried on the AP ROO 44mm. It looked so ridiculous it made me do a complete 180 with my entire collection. Sold off everything over 41mm. Now I think 39-41 is perfect and timeless.

Hilarious. Start saving now, those implants cost some serious cheddar.

I have large wrists and I like a wide range of watch sizes. I have a G Shock that is close to 50mm, my Omegas are 45.5 and 44.5 mm, and my Rolexes are 40mm. I can wear the G Shock one day and my 16710 the next and hardly notice the size difference. I think the key is not to wear any one size for too many consecutive days and I won't get used to a certain size or biased against another. It works for me but it seems like most people on the watch boards set strict size limits for themselves.

Nope. 6.75 wrist here and I feel that even 40mm seems a bit large sometimes. My 36mm DJ however, feels perfect all the time, every time.

I've decided to take a personal stand against all watches larger than 40mm and dress watches that are more than about 37mm.

This stand led me to buy two very nice vintage watches that were relatively cheap, even with the full service that one is getting now, with money left over for two more nice inexpensive watches.

I was willing to go with just one up to about $1000, but they're all huge!

There are just times that I'd like to wear a nice-looking dress watch that doesn't cost a small fortune.

I have a drawer full of cheap sporty watches that are fun to wear for various occasions.
