Some vintage purchasing advice for a newbie
Hi All
It's been a long time since I've been on these forums. After my collection grew and my money didn't, I took a break. But I hate to say I think the bug has bitten again. I recently took one of my vintage Breitlings to a jewler I trust a lot to be servcied. He also has a stunning collection of vintage watches on sale that he has collected over time. Being from South Africa, I must say there is nothing like this beyond him. Nonetheless, I came accross three watches he has in his collection currently (2 Rolexes and a Tudor) and wondered if you guys may be able to give me some advice regarding what fair prices are, movements are like, collectability etc. Would love to get some advice from people more clued up on Rolex's than myself. I have never actually owned one personally and like the look of these myself. Any insight you can give would be great? Have done a bit of research myself but its difficult as seems all 3 have lots of variants on movements, look and feel etc. I believe the 2 Rolex's are from the 60s and the Tudor is 70s. The Rolexs are in good condition and the Tudor is in almost mint condition. I have a feeling all three are fairly pedestrian which I have never been too concerned about. 60s Rolex Oyster Royal with date 60s (but seems older) Rolex Oyster Date 70s Tudor Prince Oyster Date in Rolex Case (signed on back '...by Rolex') |
