Icon20 Rolex Super President Crown Collection...

Thought on this one? Paperwork states it an authentic Rolex Day/Date Super President Crown Collection. I read the Reference here on the "Super Presidents" and they seem Ultra rare. So to the background, my friend bid on this watch (images below) and without knowing the online auctioneer has a questionable background because he thought it was a US Marshal auction but come to find out it was the name of the company that caused that thought and it's simply a consignment auction. Afterward and prior to payment he found this out. So now, being that he has not paid, he is consulting his lawyer for input... They claim everything is legit and offering him a "money back guarantee" but then he forwarded me their latest reply and the put all sorts of "our choice", "appraisal within industry tolerance", "no money guarantee", etc. They offered him a get for $4k and he paid $17k all in. His intent was an investment. While I understand and read, don't ask for valuation thread... I just want to offer him advise on his situation. From my understanding, he has NOT paid for it and trying to figure out if he is screwed period, sue for false representation, don't pay and let them come after him, purchase and sit on it or... advise. I have no input from his lawyer and think he's meeting later in the week. Any and all input is greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!!

Appraisals such as the one shown are not generally valid market values.

To know if your friend has made a bad purchase decision, research needs to be done on other 30 year old watches with similar jewels; this watch is not original Rolex.

If he has legal representation only they can tell him if he is obligated to carry through with his bid to purchase which are usually valid and enforceable contracts.

Geeesh, any Rolex enthusiast would run away at the gaudy amount of aftermarket diamonds on it. I am no expert but maybe someone else could help, is there such a thing as a genuine "super" president? First off it is a day date, not a president anyway... Red flag right there...

Are you asking if it came from factory that way?

I highly doubt it. Those mounts for the rubies on the dial look sloppy.

The day window looks like a small mouse armed with a small mouse-sized grinder did it. Sorry OP, not much help. You need to speak to a member called 'Crowncollection' believe it or not. Looks a bit rough to me.

what is the reference for the watch? if its a factory original it should have a separate reference to a standard DD such as the 18038 or 1803

personally I think its a rolex day date with added diamonds

it is all aftermarket, it is not a crown collection, and there is no such thing as a SUPER PRESIDENT. Its worth what some fool will pay, about 20-25k on average, that fully paved band does not even exist in the rolex selection of bands, appraisal generally range double to triple the real price

There is nothing even remotely factory about the gems on that watch. That is some of the sloppiest gem setting I have ever seen. Run away from that thing as fast as possible.

Like Crowncollection said: It is all aftermarket. Just look at the Dial (spacing diamonds, daywheel, placing of the diamonds) and you will see that it is really, really poorly done. This is not the Rolex quality. The best thing your friend could do is sell this to a rapper or something hoping he will get the money back. A long term investment? Highly doubt it.

For amusement, I frequently attend these "auctions" to see one kind of Rolex junk they are offering for bids. Most of them are blinged to the max with diamonds and other assorted stones and are uglier than sin. It is amazing what uninformed bidders offer for this junk, and sometimes I can hardly hold back from yelling "scam" out loud. What holds me back is I know I will be banned from ever attending again, putting an end to my Sunday afternoon fun. With the government taxes and selling fee, the final sale is bumped up an additional and outrageous 27%.The appraisals are not worth the cost of the paper they are printed on.

And yet another insult to the name Rolex
I'd run like hell and not look back.
It's fine to buy a Rolex as an investment but get one that's decent.

If he can get it for that price and prove the gold and diamonds are real he can at least get his money back or get some extra by "chop shopping" it

I find it humorous that they say it is authentic but when reading the appraisal everything is "custom" which means not rolex factory in my book. Sounds like your friend lost on this one. Hopefully he does not have to pay

Just an update... He has been advised to point out the grossly mis-representation of the watch both within the auction and on the appraisal. Obviously not to render payment and if they threaten to sue, to simply refer the auction house to the California Attorney General for fraud and enacting the Lanham Act because of the false advertising of the company name and some more I didn't catch... He IS pissed! He is considering hiring a California firm to sue them "back into a barn yard auction"

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU for the input and advise!!

17k? Try half at best.

That is one of the worst bracelets I've seen.

Anyone can "appraisal" a watch. I can make an appraisal for that watch of 80.000 USD, doesn't necessarily make it so in real life though....

I'd suggest your friend get out of the deal.

hard to believe some one who is in a position to throw out that sort of cash on a watch , is daft enough not to do the research first ,,, then cry help afterwards.

sounds harsh , but why oh why not ask first.
