Chance to buy a YG Daytona. What say ye?

I have a chance to buy a new old stock, never been sold K Serial Number Black Dial with the smaller Champagne dials on it 18 K YG Daytona. It has the skinny hands.

MSRP on this is 28,100 with the price increase. Yes this watch even though it is old is still for sale in the case and its price was increased like all the others. This AD wil sell it to me for 19,162. New (well old as it is a K serial number) but never been sold or worn. Has all the trimmings, box, papers, etc.

What do you think? It is a cool watch and kind of a grail as well.

Any thoughts or opinions? Its a lot of money for me to shell out. Is it worth it to get it. Will this be the lowest I will ever see a new YG Daytona be sold for in my lifetime? Does the skinny hands add some collectibilaty and/or value to it?

What say ye oh Masters of all there is Rolex!?

Thanks all!

Black dial with the three smaller dials being champagne dials. Kinda looks like the Paul Newman Dials.

What is the upside of me going for it? I know the downside. I'm down 20 Grand.

What's the upside?

Tom, that is a good price, and I would say if you really like it I'd get it! I did a quick search and I came up with a similar watch except it's WG w/arabics that sold for 20K. I tried on an all YG DT and I really liked the hefty feel of it.

Hi Tom,

I have had a good look around and IMO that would be a good purchase.

This it the dial. Obviously this is not the watch as the watch is 18k YG with no Stainless Steel. This pic just depicts the dial on it.

Did I mention that they will send it in for service for me free of charge as it is a 7 year old watch. Probably needs some TLC with some new oil and seals. There are a few scratches on it as well from the numerous people who have handled that baby over the years while it was in the case.

Good price, but not a killer deal in my opinion. Go for it as long as it does not put a strain on your finances. That's one of my grail watches and my favorite non-SS Daytona.

Hi Tom
I say go for it.
You may not get this opportunity again,in which case you will kick yourself.
Then again you may get a better deal in the future, but how long will you have to wait for it!!!!!

I have a buddy who also collects Rolex. Instead of getting the YG DD, he bought the watch you're looking at. I love the look of that watch - and he loves it so much, none of his other watches get any wrist time. Get it. It's a really great timepiece with one of the all-time great movements.

Definately go for it, Tom!

It's an AD deal so you get peace of mind, and the price is terrific!

You even get it serviced for free!

Man, what a deal!

Well ... you know I love mine, so I'm not objective. It's a great watch. You'd never look back. It is a comfortable, beautiful, heavy watch; and the matte dial makes it a bit more subdued than some of its close kin. It gives it a bit of an edge, I think. Mine has the fat hands, but to be truthful, I have the thin hands on my SS Daytona and my 116518, and in many ways, they fit the Daytona better because they are so sleek. The price is only going up these days, so if you're really going to buy one, and you've been talking about it for a while, sooner is probably better than later; especially for a new one.

Gorgeous watch Otto. If you have the means and the desire, I say pop for it! An early retirement gift?

I bought a WG/Gator/white faced skinny hands recently as well. Also, case worn, comes with a full rolex service etc. but had stickers on it etc. I am wearing it today, and even though I didn't lust after it at first, the combination of the super deal and the rising MSRP's it was a bargain and now a delight to own.

I say if you want it, the $20k doesn't kill you, then buy it. Gold just crested $1k an ounce, so the value is there, you won't lose any money if you decide to flip it down the line, etc. Just decide if you want $20K in that piece for the time being and make the choice from there.

Good luck!

If you have the money, this is a great time to buy undervalued stuff.

Over 30% off a brand new Gold Daytona is a rare find, and unlikely to be seen often on any later serial models..

If you like a gold watch, they don't come any nicer than that one..

I was going to say it is ok, until I saw Otto's. WOW!!!!!!!

Price seems good, but I think they'll throw in a service for you. Shine it up and get it lubed up and regulated. I would make sure they do that.

I think that YG Daytona is Grail watch for almost everyone on this forum.
20 000$ is hell lot of money, but for what you get-that`s very good deal.
If I had 20 grand,I`d go for it in a heartbeat!

Tom, I don't know what to tell you, but it sounds cool. Good luck, and if you get it, I can't wait to see the pics! That will definitely deserve a few fingers of "the really good stuff." At your AD's expense, of course--cause you're gonna be BROKE! Ha!
