RSC HK or Michael Young

Hey folks,

I'm looking to send my DateJust in for movement service, case polish and tightening up my of jubilee bracelet. Should I take it into RSC HK or Michael Young? Pros and cons of each: cost, quality, and time?

Datejust at RSC will probably cost you about HK$2,750, which is what I paid a few weeks back for an Exp II. There is a cheaper tier, a few hundred less, but that seems to be for non-date watches. Turnaround time for the few I have done there was from 11 to 15 days. This is much quicker and less than half what you would pay in UK, US, etc. I have used MY for vintage service, but RSC is worth doing, IMO. Doubt if they will work on tne bracelet tightening though.

Also worth mentioning is that if the watch was bought outside HK and you don't have the papers, RSC will take about two weeks to run the serial number through to Geneva. This happened to me a couple of times.

Thanks for the info useful Adam and Mike. I think I'll take it to MY to do the bracelet first and then to RSC for the case and movement.

Might be good to do it the other way round, just because RSC just might get a bit stroppy if they see the bracelet has been worked on. The bracelet polish is part of the fixed service price, whether you get them to do it or not, and they might not want to touch it if it's not 100% original.

Also, be sure to tell the woman (they're all women there, in little booths, like fortune tellers) exactly what you do or don't want them to do in terms of polishing, etc. The only problem I ever had was when they replaced the open 6/9 date wheel on my 1977 Oysterquartz Datejust with a new one (also included in the basic price), and when I realised a few days later, I had to go back and get them to replace it. That's the only thing to look out for really.

And be sure to ask for a free copy of the latest Rolex Magazine...they keep them under the counter at reception.

Only ever taken my Exp II to Rolex Canada IMO worth the cost and comes with a two year Waranty.
