Hello and I'm new...
Well I was reading a post about someone buying the new Sea Dweller with the "Z" status at the new high prices and it should have been the new letter "M" serial code... Not to get into the debate but, I'm trying to acquire the new GMT IIc and I missed the old price. I would like to know what the old and new serial letter might be (if there is one for the GMTIIc) Because if I'm going to spend that kinda money (I know its more mental) I'd like to get the latest serial code... Hope this makes sense... also what was included in your new GMT IIc ? any special tools or calendars... thanks all for your patients. John
P.S. planning on purchasing through Tornue in White Plains NY. |

M is the latest serial number, no special tools with the GMT's but I would shop around for another AD. Too many people have problems with Tourneau.

Yes thanks, thats right "Tourneau" it would seem on the SD that the "M" would be before the "Z" series. As for the GMT IIc the last series I understand is "M" and no unique tools, clasps, cloths... included? I certainly thank you all for the information..

Welcome to TRF!! Enjoy your stay...
As far as I know there are only M series GMT IIc's in circulation, as stated already. The box and contents are standard for the new rolexes i.e 1. Green box with wavy lines on lid 2. Watch with pillow (yours should have the newer style pillow with indented recesses) 3. COSC red hangtag 4. Rolex green "Swimpruf" hangtag with price and model # 5. Instruction manual for the GMT II Ceramic 6. The "Your Rolex Oyster" Boolklet (although I don't think this is standard now) 7. Official "papers" in green holder. This includes i) CCC (Credit Card Certificate) quoting model and serial # of YOUR watch, country code and name of dealership plus a space for your name and address ii) Service manual 8. Suede cleaning cloth I think that's it for the GMT IIc. Oh and the outer covers of the green box, of course: 1. White cardboard sleeve with stickers indicating model name and # and price 2. Outer box (avocado green) with the large Rolex Coronet on the lid

Hope So!! They haven't done the brand any favours and have just leeched of Rolex's strong market draw-card. They sound so unscrupilous! Death to Torneau!!

Well, actually, there are Z serial GMT IIc's. In fact, the earlier GMT IIc's were shipped with the 16710's manuals.

In December of 2007, last Christmas, the Tourneau dealer in Costa Mesa had
a new Daytona in the window. I stopped and asked about it. They offered it to me for $$18, 000, plus tax. I'm not particularly fond of the vernacular but Tourneau evokes a vernacular response every time I hear of or go near that store. |

Hi Jwes, I recently purchased a stainless steel DJ from tourneau in white plains (the mall at westchester) and dealt with one or two good salesman who knew their stuff about rolex. However, there were a few salesman who are jerks when you start to talk to them, and the first few minutes you'll find out, so hopefully you'll get the salesman who helped me out with my purchase. Another thread or another forum discussed tourneau and how bad they are with customers and how the "well-dressed" customers get treated/waited on first compared to someone who walks in poorly dressed or who looks "undesirable". Good luck with tourneau (great trade-in policy) and if that dont work out, there are a few Ross-simons whom my sister had great results.

To me it really doesn't matter to any great extent whether I have a Z or an M. In 10 years time they will in all events most likely be considered to be of equal status and worth (as they are the case today).
Who knows Z might be considered more desirable being the last letter in the alphabet Welcome and good luck with your choice, I have a GMTIIC and really like it because it is a Z series with the written paper certificate instead of the credit card certificate.

Tourneau - for me and my purchase, it was right before the price increase so, getting it at Tourneau my only option (2 weeks prior to price increase)... But, the upside is you get the third year warranty (that RSC services not Tourneau).
But, they are at best iffy on knowledge and very good at spreading the high price rumors on pre owned. Not all are bad, but, since it's a chain, you get mixed reviews.

I went into the "big T" in San Francisco this year. That will be my only visit to a Torneau. I support the "Independants."
Oh, and welcome to TRF jwes!

Good luck with your search for the GMT IIc.
Regarding Torneau, I wanted to trade my LNIB Sub Date Z serial for the SD last year, and got low balled on the Sub at $2,500. I never returned. I have since found that mom and pop AD's are better discounters, and are just plain better.

I go to NYC and Yonkers all the time. I pass through White Plains. I know it's a bit of a hike but this is a big purchase so you should definitely buy from some place you feel good about. I have now dealt with Long's jewelers in Peabody, MA 3 times and have had a first rate interaction each time. I can't say enough good about them and when I'm not at work I dress like a slob (grew up in Brooklyn-you can take the boy out of the city but you can't take the city out of the boy) and they treated me as though I just waltzed in with a tuxedo. No pretenses, just good, friendly, and knowledgeable service.

I hope you find a nice SS GMT IIc. As Steve states, it doesn't really matter if it's a Z- or M-series.
If you like, you can read my review of the SS GMT II 116710LN. Best of luck and be sure to post pics, please!
