I'd echo what most have said here. Try before you buy. If you could possibly hang on to your SMP as well, then go for it. I couldn't contemplate letting go of mine after all those years and experiences.
There is no way I will part with my SMP, so no worries there. Too many fond memories and trips in her company!

BLNR is a great piece, I doubt once it's on your wrist you'll regret not wearing your sub.

Help: need a little nudge to dive in the "Crown" world

I was in the same boat. I had been tinkering with the idea of getting a Rolex for a few months and I went to our local AD in St. Thomas with a friend who was buying the BLNR that day. I tried a few different watches on but low and behold I walked out with my DSSD that day. It's funny how actually having it on your wrist sways your decision. I say go for it!

I have been reading a lot of reviews of the GMT 2 BLNR and as helpful as it has already been so far... I still can't decide to pull the trigger.
Some background:
I have been enjoying my Seamaster Professional 300m diver watch since '98 (wear it 24/7) which has been flawless... And with which I am still very much enamored.
As much as I truly find this GMT 2 BLNR absolutely stunning (may be the numerals on the bezel are a tad too large?)... I still fear that I will have remorse when not wearing my faithful "Bond" watch.

Thoughts?? Can someone (try) convince me to jump in??
Welcome to TRF!

We can't convince you; it has to come from within.

When you lose sleep because you must get to the AD to ensure you don't lose that GMT you are ready; until then take your time and do your diligence.

You'll know when it's time...

If you are going to keep your Omega then there is no problem having the BLNR, these are watches not wives or GFs you can have more than one without remorse or jealousy... that's probably the main reason we have as many as we can!

Nor do you have to worry about them castrating you while you sleep if they get pissed off, they won't.

A watch with a GMT function is useful, but it won't kill the utility of your SMP.

You'll need both...and then a Datejust...and a Daytona...oh, yeah, and then a new Sea Dweller

I can only tell my story.

I was a tag and breitling man. My go to watch was a navitimer world for about 7 years. I had others but it was my go to. I had the means to buy a Rolex when I acquired the navitimer, but Rolex did not appeal to me.

I was uneducated. A watch lover but not a true student of the game.

When the gmt-c debuted, Rolex entered my radar. For some it was the last straw, for me it was the beginning.

I finally stepped up an bought one about two years ago. Never looked back.

Even though I have a 116710ln, I have been eyeing the blnr since it's debut. I recently had the chance to try it on and dang it's a tough one to take off.

If you do make it to the AD and put one on, be prepared to buy because it's akin to putting one foot down the ski slope.

Stunning shots!

Oh boy, this is getting much more complicated than I anticipated!
I ended up seeing both the 116710 LN and BLNR in the flesh and have now mixed feelings about the ceramic versions of the GMT 2.
On the one hand I definitely like the improved clasps, crown, bezel and movement upgrade with new hairspring, etc.
On the other hand, I miss a bit the "tool" side of the 16710s that I had fallen for when I was younger. I absolutely love the Red GMT hand and love the fact that you can swap three different bezel colors on just one watch! Even the Plane Cockpit picture on the old users guide gives that "Professional" theme to the watch compared to the more "dressy" feel of the new ones.

For the GMTc LN, I still need to warm up to the Green color which I feel is not really legible... And similarly for the BLNR, although Blue is my absolute favorite color and this watch is aesthetically stunning, it lacks readability IMO.

Seems like I am going full circle to a used 16710... But since I will only fall for a near mint one complete with all tags, box,etc.... It might take me a while OR I might have to settle for a BNIB ceramic one at some point (BLRO is out of my league, sadly!).

Will keep you posted on what I come up with in the end!

Think of it this way, you won't be saying goodbye to your Omega so much as enjoying a little variety. You would have the benefits of both depending on your mood.

If you haven't already, I would suggest going to your nearest AD and trying one on to see how it feels...I think you will own one soon after. Good luck!
X2 try one on.
