No effect on the watch...I wear my Rolexes or PP and put them in my shoes for the x-Ray...no issues in 5 years and I fly 2-3 times per week mate!

I always wear mine while going through Security. I had an experience two years ago when I forgot my Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean (yes, a big one) in the tray. I had already boarded the plane when I realised I had forgotten it. I told the flight attendant who called security and then they took it to my seat. Those were one of the scariest 15 minutes I have ever had. I can't imagine what I would have felt it that had been one my Rolexes.

Sydney airport security will ask you take your watch off, at least in my experience. So that leaves the tray or the easier option of leaving it in my carry in bag, safe from unnecessary handling and scratches.

Don't tempt me. My wife says I own more shoes than Imelda Marcos (I may be dating myself with that reference). Most are Gucci with Vibram soles, they fit my feet really well.

I don't see what problems an X ray machine can do to a mechanical watch, I travel often and never experienced any problem on my Rolexes...

Have to agree its a simply fact no mechanical watch will be effected by any airport scanner. There is normal background radiation as its all around us every single day.It comes from many natural radioactive substances including the ground we walk on, the air we breath,the rays from the sun that shines,buildings we live in materials in every day life and even the food we eat.The average anywhere in the world natural radiation is anything from 5 to 60 cpm even up to a 100cpm.And even a full backscatter x-ray scanners the actual radiation dose is very low and cannot harm any watch. Now say it was a minute scan and that would comparable to one hour of natural every day background radiation. Today afraid some guys worry and over pamper one of the toughest mechanical watches made today yes its a Rolex.

On some international flights, they will ask you to remove your watch when proceeding through security. On US flights, wearing it through security might be ok.....but I would remove it and place it in my carry-on before security if traveling internationally.

In Europe I've been asked often to remove all of the steel components...Belt, keys, rings etc. and of course the watch....

I really hate taking off my Rolex (or any other watch I might be wearing) because I fear scratches etc. So...long story short, I put my watch in my carry bag before passing the screening, then wear it back. Safer in my bag than ballotted around with keys, coins, etc..

And ultimately......You run the very real risk of theft if just thrown in the bin at the last minute. It happened to an acquaintance of mine once on a non-Rolex watch. He went as far as to review the video with the airport security to see if it could be determined who stole his watch........but to my knowledge he never recovered it.

Before I used to put the mine in the basket.
But since I read a thread about stolen watches that way, I now wear it.
I show it for the security asking them if it's okay if I wear it through the metal detector, they always said yes and the detector does not even react on the watch (TT).
