What exactly is the...

Presidential? Is it so named because of the particular bracelet?

I just bought a Ladies Presidential, but the dial says Datejust.

Is it a Presidential or is it a DJ?

It is all Rose Gold. Does that mean that the bracelet and case are solid Rose Gold. Y serial number.

Sorry, but the wait to get this and my new DD is killing me. Please bare with me.

Here you go Tom,

"There are two explanations. One, that the name derives from a gold-linked bracelet with a concealed clasp called "the President wristband," and created exclusively for this model. The other explanation is that the name caught on when Rolex gave the Day-Date watch to the then President Dwight Eisenhower. Several other U.S. Presidents, namely Franklin Delano Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon, and Gerald Ford reportedly favoured this model as well."

http://hubpages.com/hub/Rolex_President

Here's more - http://www.watchexpo.com/rolex-president-article.asp

"Many people say that the reason why we call the Day-Date the Roles President is because of the unique and beautiful clasp that holds the watch together comes originally from bracelet made with gold links, which was known as the President wristband and it holds the watch together - and is not found in any of the other Rolex watch models whatsoever - making it completely unique to this watch. Another reason, that is more widely noted by people in the industry is that Rolex gave our President Dwight Eisenhower a Day-Date watch as a gift, and the name for this model thus caught on in the United States as the President watch, or Rolex President. As time went on, other United States presidents favored this same watch, until it became the obvious thing to call this the President watch. The presidents that were proud owners of a Rolex President include Richard Nixon, Franklin Delano Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy, as well as Gerald Ford."

Not a political response but, if Hillary wins the race and she wears the ladies version while in the oval office, then yup :)

Hey Tom. This is copied from QualityTyme.net:

Why is the Day-Date sometimes called a "President"?

Actually, Rolex has never referred to the Day-Date watch as a "President". However, the BRACELET we are used to seeing on the Day-Date is known as a President, since one was fitted to President Dwight D. Eisenhower's watch during a service overhaul in 1956 -- the same year the Day-Date was first introduced.

And as a little known trivia fact, President Eisenhower's watch wasn't even a Day-Date... it was an 18kt Datejust given to him by Rolex in 1946 to celebrate the WWII victory -- and Winston Churchill was also given one at the same time.

also

What all languages are available on the "day wheel" of the Day-Date "President"?

The "day wheel" on the Day-Date is available in the following 26 languages: English, German, Arabic, Chinese, Danish, Spanish, Basque, Catalan, Ethiopian, Finnish, French, Greek, Hebrew, Dutch, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Moroccan, Norwegian, Farsi, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Swedish and Turkish.

Hey Greg! Been skipping the gym lately...

but guys...

is the Ladies Presidential also considered to be a DJ, just solid gold? I thought no DJ could be solid gold.

The Ladies "President" is a Datejust in solid gold, either white or yellow, or solid platinum, .with a President bracelet attached, or an Oyster, or a Jubilee.. So it seems that the Ladies President is so called because it is a solid precious metal. There is no President designation on the dial.

To be strict, the name "Presidential" is not a word Rolex uses. Rolex refers to the bracelet as the "President" bracelet.

Some also call the whole Rolex Day-Date watch (with President bracelet) for "The Presidential" which is again not correct. The watch combination "Rolex Day-Date" + "President bracelet" is called "Day-Date".

Since FDR died during WWII and the DD came out later, I don't see how he could have worn a "President".
