Is it really impossible/implausible for someone's parents to buy their kid who's still in HS a Mercedes? When I was in HS I drove a brand new Toyota Celica while some classmates drove MB, BMW, Audi, etc, etc. When we graduated HS some kids were flown to Hawaii for 2 weeks as their graduation present. |

Show some class. OP: I think you've picked a great watch. Impressive how many places you have dived at such a young age. I wore a navitimer in high school and college and never had any trouble. Just don't flaunt it and be smart. |

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but Hawaii (as well as the other places mentioned) is a very specific area of the globe with a pretty specific identity. Africa is a continent with over 55 different countries, not some monolithic mass of people. Kind of dismissive to just say you're traveling to "Africa", as I hear so many people do, over and over. No big deal and not trying to pick on the OP, just wishing that part of the globe would get more respect.
By the way OP, get the SubC. |

Get the Sub.
You want something rugged that can take the college beating. During college I wasn't comfortable bringing any watch that I couldn't wear to the pool, gym, track, or even the showers. This includes those on leather, PVD'd, or without shock resistance. Naturally, my 14060M accompanied me throughout undergrad. From experience, you never want to leave it out of sight. If you're active, the Sub is the preferred choice - you can even switch to nato when weight/heat is a factor. Maybe consider one with Al bezel so you can go worry free. |

I would vote for a classic older sea dweller. Given your obvious passion for diving, it's the most tool watch out there. It's also less flashy than the ceramic sub which I guess at 16 is a consideration :)
I just wished I was as lucky as you to be able to pick and choose watches when I was 16:) Good luck!

Thank you to all for good advice. For those saying this is stupid and I am making this up. My father started a large financial group that is now very large. He is now the Chief Operating Officer. In fact many of you have heard of it. I will not release the name of it as I do not wish to put it's name in any forms of social media.

I would choose a 2nd hand seadweller. I have one also, great watch! I will never sell it. And if I sell it, I will loose no money! Exactly what you are looking for: 1. Great watch 2. No risk. 3. In line with your hobby
By the way, where did you dive in Italy? Good luck! |

I would go with the SD also, because of the date function. And congrats to you for having good taste at a young age and the ability to think far forward enough to save for what you really want.
I also wore a Rolex in college, a GMTII. Albeit I was 25 years old when I started and I had already done 7 years in the Army. Just don't take it off or show it off and you should be fine. |

Working hard to buy a Rolex is great, having your wealthy parents buy you one just as good.
Let's leave class warfare at the door, anyone who takes the time to join this forum and participates is a Rolex lover and that's all that matters. |

I recognize that nothing I say will make a difference. But don't do it. Save your money, learn about how to spend it wisely and when you have a significantly larger amount saved and earned purchase a watch you'll truly appreciate. Keep in mind most of your cohort may not even appreciate that watch, and even if they do more will likely think it's fake. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Save and buy the one you want. And why not? Transport, accomodation and lodging are sorted. Just don't settle for almost and make sure it counts.
On another note, what's with the haters? Seriously, drop off. |

I understand that we are all inherently enablers, but he specifically asked about our thoughts on his thoughts. The 'haters' (myself included) suggested an entry level watch and then growing, while he learns and understands more about saving/spending/and his own taste. The omega is gorgeous, durable and you won't feel bad if it gets damaged while diving. More importantly you'll have an extra 5k to save for something else. I got mine 12 years ago, and while I now wear my other watches more frequently, it's still a great watch. That being said I don't know you, your family, values or circumstances so my opinion is just as worthless as the next guys. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

1) Thank your parents. You are blessed to be fortunate enough to afford college/car with no financial obligations
2) Reward yourself by buying the watch that you want. 3) Reward your parents by getting good grades in school, being respectful, being a good person, and making them proud. This is ultimate return a parent can ask of their child. When I was 16, I saved my xmas, birthday, and even lunch money to buy the watch I truly wanted (Tag Heuer 6000). I felt like a million bucks every time I put it on. I wore it every day for the next 16 years. I still have it in my collection and is my most prized watch. Buy what you want and save for it. You will appreciate it more. |

Once again some here show what they're made of. It's getting old and perhaps it time to cull the herd.
