Old Watch with Open Warranty Card: Any benefits?

hi folks,

I recently bought this LV from a private party that came with an open warranty card. THe name of the dealer is there and the rest is all blank. So if I put my name on the card, what does that entitle me to?

I was under the impression that the moment I put the name and date on the card, I am entitled to a 3yr warranty? IS that correct?

Can't the dealer check that they never sold me the watch? Won't they question how my name got there?

first a rolex warranty is 2 years. Secondly according to rolex unless they are filled in at the time of purchase it voids the warranty. So putting your name and a date on it technically will do you no good.

the only way you get an extra year of warranty is if the jeweler decides to cover it him or herself. You see this in tourneau a lot where they say no discounts but we offer a 3rd year of warranty.

Having an "open warranty" card is a sales gimmick and nothing more. Filling it out in your name does nothing, but certainly it does not "entitle" you to a valid warranty.

It's possible that if the watch is new you might fool a Dealer into warranty work, but not the Dealer who has their stamp on the card.

Maybe it matters on resale --- the fact that a new buyer can put his name on it, rather than staring at someone else's name, means I can ask $100 than the going price? HA HA HA ...

i'd say most rolexes don't need a warranty, if it passes muster pre-purchase you're fine.
