Royal Oak15300 issues

Hi all,

New AP owner and have only had it for a month but have had some issues.

When I first took it home I noticed it was running 17/s per MINUTE fast. Took it to my AD and they demagnetized it and it was running perfectly. Then it stopped once or twice because I don't think I wound it enough, and for the next few weeks all was well.

I played golf today and a few hours later the watch stopped again. Except this time the rotor won't budge. The other times I just wound it and it started again, but the rotor isn't moving and although I can wind it manually is it not starting. I get the feeling the spring is getting old because it doesn't seem to hold much of a wind.

Any idea what the issue might be? I'm going to bring it back to the AD on monday and may ask they cover a full AP service at this point (the warranty is with the AD not AP, and they said if I had other issues they would cover an AP service).

I'd say send it to AP.

was it pre-owned? because 15300 are discontinued from production so was wondering how you got hold of em.

i would always opt for the new 15400 however in your case, please send it to AP direct and don't let anyone else try their remedy.

Yes I bought it lightly used, its from 2008, and I really want to get an AP service in it, especially if the dealer will pay for it. I love it to death but if it doesn't work half the time its useless to me. :(

If they do pay for an AP service please report back to let us know the dealer. The guys on 47th Street don't have the best rep so it would be good to know of some stand up guys up there.

Will do, I got it at Motion in Time, so far they have been very good about helping me out with a few other fixes, and said out loud that if I'd be more comfortable with an AP service they will happily pay for it. We'll see what happens when the bill comes, and you will all DEFINITELY be hearing about it either way.

Yes, I played 7 holes or so, but it was working fine then. It is stopped four hours later. I pulled the crown but like I said the rotor is stuck and I can't get it to spin. Not touching it until someone fixes it for now.

Can't say for sure that's the cause of the problem but I wouldn't be surprised. I'm an avid golfer but would never wear a mechanical watch while playing. Hope this gets resolved!

To make sure everything is fine, send it to AP SC.

Yup! Pretty sure the hand book explicitly says don't wear when playing golf.

That's odd. Didn't they make a Nick Faldo version?

They did. It doesn't mean you should play golf with it on though.

At the AP UK golf day last year Jose confirmed you should not wear whilst playing.

AP Service Center in Clearwater, FL is the only proper answer in my opinion.

Yes, AP service for sure to make sure they inspect it and sort out the issues. I would not want anyone else opening up the AP and working on it.

I suppose that's one way to go about sports sponsorships.

Most others make sure their stuff works in the said sport before putting their name on it.

I wonder if Tag heuer or Tudor had the same restrictions when they sponsored Tiger.

They sponsor the person not the sport.

You're right though. I'm going to sell my AP and get a Tag.

send it to ap clearwater, also not sure from your pics but it looks like a watch maker other than ap touched up the watch, I would have ap lightly refinish your 15300 and have them re-apply that famous ap grain to your watch. Excellent choice on the 15300 btw, I enjoy mine.

Edges on the chamfers should also be crisp and sharp, here is my 15300 for reference

Hmm...as it happens I actually have a Tag. Care to trade? Lol jk

I recall reading Richard Mille working with Rafa Nadal to get his watch just right for tennis. Thought that's how others did it.
