Pretty sure you can get $1 cheeseburgers at McDonalds. What you can't get, however, is class, something the Jumbo is all about.

I was in HK during Dec of 2013 and finding a 15202 was an impossible task (I think I had checked with close to 10 ADs (and the boutique) and grey market dealers, none of which had it at the time).

Suppose they're more commonly available now; the sales forums have a few too

It's actually like disneyland for watches. I was offered one at 10% off retail plus 12 month 0% financing.

What have been people's experiences with any discounts on the 15202?

It's just a means of putting the money in perspective before pulling the trigger on a 15202. Would I rather have

1. My favorite watch (the 15202st) that I can afford; or
2. My 2nd (a 5513 maxi sub) + and 3rd favorite (a 26300) watch?

At the moment, it's absolutely number 2 and I don't think I can change my mind until the day where I can scoff at 7k as a figure that has very little impact on my life.
For some people, option A is much more attractive. A person could get a Ferrari 458 Italia versus an Audi R8 + Maserati Quattroporte. It's all about options and what you want.

I think this is a boutique exclusivity so AD should not have it.
Boutiques i went claimed they receive one piece every 2 months or so; not sure how true it is though.

Not in the US at least. Yet the 15400 blue is exclusive.

Slightly off topic, but boutique exclusive doesn't always mean what it sounds like. I was in SF and Shapur had the ceramic diver in the window, which I thought was odd. I was at the NYC boutique and asked the question and they indicated that they will provide some of the boutique only pieces to some of their "best" ADs.

My local AD told me that some of the Boutique pieces could be had because there was no AP Boutique in Canada. I would assume that this applies to other countries.

Shapur also has the blue 15400 upstairs. I think the boutique only thing is basically BS, Westime in LA also always has boutique only pieces. No discount though so you may as we'll get it from a boutique.

to the OP i can see what you are doing and i think you are trying to justify the unjustifiable. i have been going thru alot of this myself as i have two nice watches (hulk and speedie) but am currently buying a blancpain fifty fathoms. the heart wants what the hearts wants. don't go option 2 (5513 and something else). get what you really want. if you don't now you'll end up doing it later, perhaps after selling the 5513 at a loss.

don't get me wrong, i love the 5513. but you clearly want the jumbo. it is a killer watch. given you recognise this and can get it, you need to buy it.

Do you have the money? Can you afford it (as opposed to just having the money)? Do you like it better than the alternatives?

Then go for it!

Shapiro is an odd AD. Very few pieces. Other so so brands. Sales staff not terribly well-informed.

I've yet to see a ceramic diver in the Clay?

I don't think this is trolling either. I must say, money no object I would get the 15202 in a heartbeat.

I'd much rather buy a used 15300 as I stand. (Blue dial)

Not really worth the premium for me.

I see your point, actually you thoughts are similar to what WatchTime Magazine December 2012 wrote:

" The Extra-Thin shares other feature with its forbear from 1972: its very high price, $22,500. For that money you could buy an elegant gold wristwatch with a manufacture caliber. For $5600 less, you could buy Audemars Piguet's newly revamped Self-Winding Royal oak, which contains the manufacture caliber 3120. It has a second hand and is also quite thin, just 9.8 mm high"

But is also true that any high-end watch we buy only needs to be justifiable to us and that whats matters at the end. Whatever makes you happy.
Personally I love the 15202

There is really no logic in this kind of decision. The "is it worth it?" is different for each individual and can only be answered by oneself. A yes to me might be a no to you and vice versa.

You have some mint on Chrono 24 for around 15.000 and I'm sure in the classified sections here you can also find great deals...

Exactly it's what makes you happy, some people buy watches to prove something to others, I guess that's why very good 100% copy replicas of high end brands work so well, I buy watches exclusively for me, I never talk about it with my friends, not even 1 knows that I have more than 1 sub and 1 Pam, just talk about this with my wife and here, I just love having a time piece from a manufacture with a history, very well finished, very accurate, it makes me happy, sometimes I can spend 1 hour when I have the 7 at home and not in the safe, cleaning them, putting them all on the exact time, looking at them, it just makes me happy.

8 years ago I went to Turkey on vacation and at that time had only 2 watches, Cartier Santos Dumont (had it for 13 years) and Omega Seamaster (had it for 2 years), went to a good quality replica shop, and decided to buy a Patek replica, chronograph, hand wound, swiss movement, see through back, movement was quite pretty, dial also, was a high priced replica, around 700 US dollars, very well done, in all I wore it 3-4 times, it didn't bring me any pleasure, even if very well done and nice looking, I knew it was a fake, and had much more pleasure wearing my Omega seamaster automatic with ETA movement than this one.

I try not to show most of my watches even to my best friend, always have 1 of 2 when am in company, either my sub c LN, or my Pam 028, the others never, for me it's very very personal, so having a replica is a big NO, when for many it's to show off, really not my thing…

In the end the important is what you are happy with, if putting 200 K in a watch, of course if you can afford it, is going to give you 10% more happiness everyday for the rest of your life because you love having a rare masterpiece on your wrist, then go for it, would be stupid not to...

But cellphones or a citizen is an electric thing, a real watch is mechanical, sometimes a marvel of craftsmanship and art, from companies with a real history, gives a very big pleasure knowing that you have on your wrist the result of many hours or years of research, watchmaking heritage, watchmakers' work to try to make you the best finished, accurate watch as possible, wether mechanical watches of the lowest prices to the most expensive, you have a kind of mechanical wonder on your wrist.

There is a watch from ALS, so complicated to make that they only release 1 per year and have set the limit for this model to 6 pieces, of course this is really the extreme but even a Rolex sub benefits from a serious history of diving watches, has excellent design and finishing for this kind of watch in that price level, for me a good watch is a very personal pleasure of self satisfaction knowing that you have something special or very special on your wrist, I especially love the movements, so much that when I had only my sub C LN, plus a few that I didn't wear, I even installed a see through case back, because I loved to see life in my watch, can't say it's a very interesting movement but it still brought me pleasure

Exactly, it's very personal, I love dress watches with complications, especially ALS, but it's absolutely not my style, I am always sporty/casual, if I would win 100 million at the Lotto of course would buy a few dress watches with serious complications, even if just to wear them at home and enjoy their beauty.

But for now these watches are "not worth it for me", I am always casual dressed, with great brand clothes, Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, etc, but always in Dior sneakers and jeans, , and maybe I wear a suit 6-10 times a year, basically if I would buy such a watch I would put it maybe 20 times a year.

One ALS I love is the A. Lange & Söhne 403.035 Datograph, Platinum, on Chrono 24 there is a mint one for 47.000 US $, a marvel in platinum, for this price I ordered recently a PP 5712 and a Rolex sub LV, they are expensive, especially the PP, SS, not PT or gold, but is it worth it? Yes, they will get serious wrist time, the PP is one piece that will never leave me, that my son will inherit when I die, so yes it's worth it.

Everything is so subjective
