Cape Cod

My wife and I are spending next week in a cottage on Cape Cod. We rented a secluded little one bedroom place to unwind and disconnect for a week.

I know there a quite a few folks here from Mass, and I'm sure a bunch of you have also visited before.

This is our my first time visiting there. My wife has been to Woods Hole, where she did some research work a couple years ago, but other than that we are rookies on Cape Cod.

Staying in the Wellfleet area. I'd love some recommendations for things to do, restaurants, attractions, whatever you think we might enjoy. Planning on doing some biking, and beachside beer drinking, but don't really have anything else planned beyond that.

You're in the heart of the national sea shore, some of the most beautiful parts of the cape. Downtown Wellfleet is very eclectic and has an artists community vibe, because ostensibly that's what is...

Lots of great things to do, a ton of great biking and hiking trails, there are a lot of plots that are private property and its easy to wonder in to someones compound by accident. Might not be your speed buto there is a beach-side restaurant for simple drinks and sandwiches that also has live bands, it's called the Beach Comber and its in Cahoon Hollow. Great restaurants all around but the better ones are a short drive to PTown, (think Fire Island, your wife is safe) but the area is a lot of fun!!

Truro is so beautiful and scenic, great little 9 hole course there you could stroll, you gotta do P-Town too being that close.

Plus, the Beachcomber was named the “10th Sexiest Beach Bar in the world” by the Travel Channel, and one of the “Best Bars in America” by Esquire.

Chatham. Classy, not-so-touristy, beautiful scenery, quaint shops - especially ones for original oil paintings. Try to take dinner or lunch at the Chatham Bars Inn.

As for the other parts of the Cape, I could candidly take or leave them, but will always carry a soft spot for Chatham.

Mike brings up a good area, I love Chatham too however I wouldn't go so far as to say it's "not-so-touristy" the streets of downtown Chatham, while quaint are packed with tourists but that's ok it's a great place to spend some time. The views of Chatham Harbor are not to be missed, and Yes the Chatham Bars Inn is beautiful. Also consider the Wequassett Inn a little more private, quiet and they have a world class golf program which I know is right up your alley. As does Ocean Edge in Brewster, and all of these complexes have very good restaurants

Isn't Cape Cod in Poland, or did they speak polish there?

Spent a couple weeks in Chatham about five years ago, it's a really cool place. If the summer league is still going on, you should catch a Chatham A's game. Bunch of beaches close that are pretty awesome.

good advice by all so far..

The beaches in the area are beautiful and as the others said ptown is a must just for the experience alone with you being so close.

Your right in the national seashore area, I would check out coast guard beach and marconi beach as 2 of my favorites...get there early as parking fills out quickly.

Have spent a ton of time in the above area as well as Chatham. Chatham definitely has a classier vibe and is not as touristy as the national seashore (although there still are lots of people walking around). Definitely worth the trip down.

Lastly, my favorite part on all the cape has to be Cataumet. 0 tourists, very quiet, and beautiful. My family has a place on the harbor so maybe im a little bias, but I highly recommend making the trip to the Chart Room (little over an hr from Wellfleet) around sunset on any given day. Enjoy a famous mudslide at the outside bar/patio overlooking the harbor then head inside for some of the best seafood youll ever eat (I reccomend the "lazyman's lobster")

Hope you enjoy your trip and get the most out of your cape cod getaway

Very true, Marc; especially at this time of the year, tourists are all over the Cape!

Thanks for all the great info guys! I knew I could count on this group for good local advice.

Looks like I've got a good list to cover. We have friends who will be staying in Provincetown later in the week, so we are already planning to go there. We'll definitely check out some of the other spots as well.
