Interesting Experience At A Grey Dealer
So today I stopped by at a grey dealer's shop. He sells new and used Rolex and APs and other high end brands. They had few custom watches and many BNIB watches as well. I saw 3 very interesting pieces among others and would like to share with you guys.
The first was what I thought is a Platona, but to my surprise it was a modified SS Daytona. Of course once I had a close up and held the watch I knew it. To be honest, he almost had me. I believe a member here has done this before, but can't remember who. According to the sales guy, they send the watches to Singapore to have all their modifications done there. The second nice piece was the new YG Skydweller silver Roman numeral dial on a brown leather strap. I must say, it's one of best Rolex watches out there. I just love everything about this particular iteration of the SkD. The wrist presence is great and feels just right. A perfect piece if you ask me. The last one is a simple new YG DD, but the dial is just different. I don't remember the name of the dial, but it's the "wood-like" precious stone. It was the first time for me to see that dial. The watch was BNIB and according to the sales person, the dial is original. I thought it looked nice, yet a bit on the flashy side for my taste. Still, noteworthy. Sorry for the long post, just wanted to share my experience. Be well, everyone. |

Ugh. I think that platona/SS is so wrong in every way.

That platona bezel is a fake, that's not a mod that's a franken, if that is even a real Daytona.

I don't see what is so offensive about modding the stainless steel Daytona. I read on here all the time that people wish the stainless steel Daytonas had ceramic bezels. If all the parts are truly authentic like the OP states and up to Rolex's standards I don't see what the harm is. People mod their stainless models with white gold dials all the time and no one bats an eye. I get that it is kind of passing off a cheaper Daytona as a more expensive one but to call it awful from a picture is a tad silly. In person I am sure the weight, heft, and sparkle don't match up to a platinum model but if it's all authentic Rolex, maybe someone just wants a stainless wach with a cool dial/bezel combo.

That's what I think, too. Although I was talking about the watch itself being legit, not sure about the dial and bezel; most likely it's aftermarket. Still, I don't think it's offensive; however, will never buy it myself. At the end, as they say, to each their own. and thanks! |

If they sourced a real bezel and face wouldn't be able to tell Cool for someone maybe but I'm not into that kinda thing, certainly nothing "offensive" about it, people are free to do as they chose and what makes them happy. That is all that really matters. |

Very interesting and thanks for sharing. I don't like mods but I respect people who like. However, a mod to make a simple watch look like a very expensive one is just pathetic.

That bezel is really horrible. You don't need to own a platona to know that that isn't even close. Everything else is

You know what, coming to think about it I, personally, would feel like I'm wearing a fake watch. No offense to anyone; I have nothing against those who like to mod their watches, but it's just not me. |

Also isn't Singapore the source of the DSSD-like bezel on some 116613s that we're floating around and people claimed it was from an AD and it was "real"?

A perfect wanna be Platinum Daytona watch . As long as it's modified by using OEM Rolex parts there is no problem .However, it does not a become a patch on a genuine Rolex Daytona Platinum at all. I came across a thread about Platinum Daytona on this forum and it weighted around 280 grams .I mean looking like identical is something but feeling the platinum must be a whole different new level

I'm against replicas and fakes. Period. It undermines the manufacturer, and is for poseurs. Just my opinion. Buy genuine, or buy something you can afford.

To the op the day date dusk is called bullseye. As for the Daytona, I am not into that mod stuff, each to their own though
