Photo angle and size

It is often said that you have to try a watch on, before you buy it. It is very hard to judge the size, if you only look at pictures. The angle of the photo can make an illusion, so that the watch seems bigger than it actually is.

Today I took a picture of my deepsea - and it look BIG. Even though my wrist size is 19,5 cm (7.7 inches).

A DeepSea will always looks big, especially on a tiny wrist.

Photo angle and size

My point being that on this photo it actually looks big on my wrist, which cannot be cathegorized as "tiny".

On this photo from June the deepsea doesn't look too big IMO:

I guess when you see the height of the watch it looks bigger.

It looks big. But then again...angle variation makes a big difference.

Looks absolutely fine in your 2nd pic with the angle looking from above.

To avoid the fisheye effect of making the watch look over big take a flat pic of the watch on your wrist with it being at least 12 inches from the camera. Into a mirror is also good.

I get what you're saying OP.

It's the effect of your camera being that close to your watch. For example, the size of your watch on your wrist as you look at it looks much different from what it looks like when you photograph it close by with a macro.

Agree, but looks great on you!

I only have a 6.5 inch wrist but this angle I think looks ok

A question of perspective and foreshortening effect. Most smartphone pics have a lens we'd call a moderately wide angle. Therefore it accentuates the area in the center of the picture. That's why portrait pro's will use a moderate telephoto to flatten things like your nose.

Which ring is smaller on this shot?
