I stop smoking 10 years ago and I'm still poor.

I'll try showing this to my wife. I'm not sure she has the same perspective.

I can think of a couple rationalizations/explanations - some, of course, would prove more effective than others, depending on your target audience (usually the wife)

- All the other kids at work have one.
- Good things happen to people who wear an expensive watch.
- People who wear an expensive watch are 88% less likely to develop (insert medical condition here) than those who don't wear one.
- Having an expensive watch enhances sexual performance.
- I bought an expensive watch to save you (the wife) the time-consuming agony of having to spend what I spent on my watch on purses and shoes.
- (For the environmentally conscious) An expensive watch actually reverses the effects of global warming.
- (Last resort - Hail Mary Pass) I bought an expensive watch because I wanted to make you (the wife) happy. (Note: This one is so out in left field that it should buy you a little time to flee the house while she tries to figure out how an expensive watch for you could make her happy.)

Or, the one I actually used: I'm the one who won the case that funded it - so, since I'm self-employed, consider it a bonus from me to me.

Great list and excellent comments. I'm trying to justify picking up a BLNR right now.

I met a guy who buys 2 order of large fries from Mcdonalds ... he then opens his
$300 bottle of balsamic vinegar and enjoys his meal...

Then there are people who spend $400 on sunglasses ...$700 on a pair of shoes ...

One guy collects whole vintage cutlery sets (knives, spoons, forks) from old victorian era that go into the thousands of $...

So you spend $6000 on a watch, no need to justify or rationalize your decision. Only reationalization is I wanted it so I got it.
