Rolex service question

Think it's time for my date just to go in for some work. I was on the rolex site and read up on what they do. Do I contact the rolex service center and arrange delivery or can it be done from an authorized dealer? I guess being in Las Vegas, I would be dealing with the beverly hills location. Thanks

Just call RSC and deal directly with them, they will give you specific instructions right down to what tape to use

What above say, unless you have an AD you deal with, then they will do it for you

You can do it either way, but here's what happens when you let the AD send it in. They become the "owner representative" and Rolex only deals with them. This is how work you don't want done happens; they give the OK because they think they are helping you.

The RSC accepts only Registered Mail from the US Post Office, nothing else. However, when they get it they evaluate it and send you a concise, itemized list of things they suggest and things they may require. You must decide on the suggestions and make the decision to go ahead before they do any work. It is well worthwhile to you to send it yourself.

There's a great thread on here with step by step instructions and pictures for RSC service.

Although I use ABC Watchwerks in SoCal and not RSC as they are easier to deal with and actually appreciate your business.

What made you decide to you ABC rather than the RSC, if you don't mind me asking?

You'll find that many people on here prefer a watchmaker they trust over RSC, mainly it's time and a personal attention. Watchmaker usually will be a week or two where as RSC is running 5-6 weeks

RSC Beverly Hills sends some of their watches to RSC Dallas for service. If you decide to go to the RSC for service, send your watch to Dallas RSC. Can't go wrong with ABC Watchwerks as well.

I was considering sending my Explorer to an RSC and they sent me a file with detailed instructions and pictures how to pack it, address it. etc. Since it was still under warranty, and all it needed was regulation, I took it to my AD (although I'd bought the watch here from a trusted seller)and they shipped it to Dallas RSC. It was returned in 3 weeks and at no cost, even for shipping.
I was very pleased.

It's more personalized, the service. I sent one it went great and now when I call they know who I am, etc.... Plus, you can decline things that RSC would insist on as part of a service, like replacing hands, a date wheel or dial.

I'm in LA around 6x's a year for work, I drop the watch off in person and they mail it to me a few weeks later, exactly serviced as we discussed...

You're in Vegas intake it to the Rolex Boutique in the Wynn/ Encore and have them look after it. Luis is the Rolex watchmaker on staff there and they deal with Rolex in Dallas

Usually an independent will also charge something less than the RSC does, and if you are dealing with someone local and can drop-off and P/U you can also avoid the shipping and insurance both ways.

For me the key things about an independent that you can trust is to confirm that they are: fully trained on Rolexes, service the watch to the same protocol as the RSC, have a Rolex parts account and you are sure they will only use genuine parts, and are proficient in polishing (too many hacks out there that don't know what they are doing in this regard).

An independent is also sometimes more lenient with certain things, like giving you back your original part when you have something like a bezel replaced. On many things the RSC will only do a swap and keep your old part in exchange. They may also service a watch that has something not original to it, like an aftermarket dial, whereas the RSC will not touch the watch unless you replace all the parts to factory spec for that reference.

Also, when you're dealing with vintage a good independent is almost a necessity.

That's a good idea, plus I can take a look at their rolex experience display first hand. Even more reason to go!

For me any reason to go Vegas
Any reason to go to the Wynn / Encore it's the best resort on the strip.
Any reason to go to that Rolex Boutique it's the best around

I understand that Beverly Hills will only accept watches that are brought in and not mailed in--maybe they have plenty of work just from the LA area? They will mail it back to you though. When I inquired with the Dallas RSC, they emailed me a file with instructions and pictures as to how the watch was to be boxed, taped and addressed. Plastic tape won't do. Has to be paper tape sealing the box or they won't accept it. Folks at both RSC's were very helpful.

I have had three watches done by RSC BH and three by ABC. I have gone to both their physical locations.

I would go to RSC BH. They will accept mail, you just have to follow their directions for mailing.
