Scratches Under Lugs.. How?

Hey guys, I just had a quick question to ask you today.

I was looking at my Yachtmaster and I noticed the underneath of my lugs had some wear on them. I bought my watch used from DavidSW so I'm certain it's not from my own usage.

How do you think this happened?

maybe it happened while resizing the bracelet?

Thanks for the feedback, yeah it bothers me because theres no way feasibly that you can even lay the watch on its side to wear the underneath of the lugs are scratched. I thought it could've been during a bracelet resizing but that also doesn't make sense as those would be on the links or even if the bracelet was removed, the scratches would be on the inside of the lugs not the ends of them.

Bracelet changing probably. No big deal.

Time to get on with enjoying your new watch. Don't spend too much time worrying about little scratches on the clasp and the condition of the back of the lugs, etc.

In my case it happened at the AD, when I asked them to take off a few links to fit my wrist. Just a very very small dent under the lug, near the outer edge. Maybe they use some kind of vise to hold the watch in place?

Anyways, I'm also not happy about this ... but as others have suggested, it is better to move on,

Doesn't really matter , but I know how you feel. You know they are there. Was it described as mint or something - Is that why you asking or just curiosity?

It was described as excellent, and in all fairness, it was in excellent shape. I just didn't see any pics of underneath the lugs before buying it. I was curious to see if anyone had the same type of wear on their own rolex and an idea of how it happened so I could make sure it didn't get worse.

If it was described as excellent I would be unhappy. It has damage.

I would be stunned if David sold a watch that was not as described. Surely there were photos of the back of the case when it was for sale.

More likely it happened on the buyers end, as he himself indicated. Either way, I would not sweat such a minor thing.

There will be a lot more scratches on your watch from normal wear.
Some scratches UNDER the lugs should absolutely have no impact on your happiness on obtaining your watch. Enjoy it now that you have it on your wrist.

To the OP, these scratches will be removed when the watch goes in for service.

They are minor and can be easily polished out with cape cod if you want to have a go at it yourself.

Can't see a lot from the pic, but scratches on the underside of the lugs usually come from the spring bars during bracelet/strap removal/installation/changes. It's pretty common when the person doesn't have the tweezer type spring bar tool.

NY RSC put tiny scratches on the underside of my Sub when removing the bracelet to regulate the watch. If they can do it, anyone can (and will). Don't worry about it and enjoy your new watch.

I was thinking about this subject lately. I've noticed that wearing watches put some (hairline scratches) under the lugs and back side of case which is driving me CRAZY but what can i do??

The question is. Can those scratches removed without shaving metals(polishing)?? I am not sure but given that those scratches are not deep and just need to have symmetrical lines as factory it can be. Right guys???

Outside of laser welding, all scratch removal involves removing metal. No way around it. It's just a question of how much.
