I'd trade. It's an El Primero! I love all my watches - the El Primero is the most accurate.

Only true WISes realize how monumental the El Primero movement is.

An 'A' 14060 for a DeLuca is such a hot deal. A serial is stuck in an awkward period of the series and is in no way "hot" or sought after, while the DeLuca is.

I would make the trade and pick up a red Sub or a newer 14060M/114060 if you want another Sub.

14060 is a classic Sub and is always a keeper IMHO. There are two watches I would never flip. a ND sub and a Daytona.

I'm not a ND Sub fan. I think the Zenith is a awesome watch. Both would be easy enough to unload. The Zenith is a lot more watch for the $$$. IMO the name alone is carrying the Subs value equal or greater than that of the Zenith.

Any WIS worth his salt would always sell a kidney before he'd trade away one nice watch for another. That way, he gets two watches. And one kidney is plenty.

I would do it only if resale value is not first agenda when keeping a watch.

That ZENITH is classic and does not come up for sale too often , I would do it in a heart beat since Rolex sub is over played these days.

It depends. If we're talking pure value/collectibility....then swap. The Zenith is a more unusual, rare watch. And of course, the El Primero is a legendary chronograph movement...one that, as no doubt you're aware, was the ebauche used by Rolex in the pre-4130 Daytona.

If you're talking about a daily wear classic whose dependability need never be questioned, then I'd suggest sticking with the 14060. However, those who point out that the basic Submariner will be available readily for quite some time are quite right. So choose accordingly, based on what's most important to you and your watch collecting or wearing priorities.

Good trade Tony. I have a 38mm El Primero on the way, courtesy of a TRF member. I agree that the De Luca is a far more unusual watch than the Sub - that's not to denigrate the Sub in any way, which remains a classic.

What do you like? I like divers and really am not chronograph guy. However, that is one of the best chronographs made. So yes, if you like the Zenith and it is a clean example.

Keep in mind the Sub is a commodity or money watch, while the Zenith is more difficult to sell as the market you sell into shrinks.

Well, I'm a bit of a Rolex fanboy, and I like my divers. But when a classic, rarely seen watch comes along (housing one of the most iconic movements ever made) I think that - assuming you like it, of course - it's hard to justify keeping something instead for which there are millions of potential replacements knocking around.

I picked this up yesterday, and whilst it wasn't a Rolex I let go it did require some re-engineering of the collection as I didn't have a few thousand knocking around at the time. I'm happy with the decision, although YMMV...

Well?
Did you hang on to the all too common sub, or take the sensible route that leads to the Zenith?
I have both and the Zenith (Black dial) has always attracted complimentary attention. I would say the best compliment the 14060 has attracted was "I suppose it's a step up from the horrible looking bug eyed sub with the date" As everyone says, the 14060 can be purchased any day of the year....Not so the Zenith as only 1250 were made of that model. I like the compliment passed by one admirer "Why settle for a Daytona, when you can have the best?"
I await the ranting!

IMO it doesn't matter if the Zenith is rarer than the Rolex.

One is a Zenith and the other is a Rolex! And we are talking about a beauty here, no date Sub

There's hardly anything "beautiful" about a no date sub. Want a watch that says "I have no character and I bought this watch because people know it's expensive."? Buy a modern submariner. When looking at modern watches, there are so many companies that blow Rolex away for the same or less money. I don't know why everyone here thinks wearing a rolex turns them into a God or something, it's just a watch that 99.99% of the population WILL NEVER notice. I've been complimented on more $100-300 watches than I've ever been complimented on any of my Rolexes.

Plus Zenith is a great watch company whose work is undervalued in my opinion, they create wonderful movements and watches that are significantly less expensive than Rolex with the same or better quality. And more complications.

I know this is an old post but I'd never seen that zenith model before and I really like it. I know I'm Rolex brand obsessed and would probably never wear it, but I want one. From the looks of it, the watch appears to be a chrono-diver. Really cool.
