Apple Watch

Spend thousands on a Rolex or get an Apple Watch?

Just wondering how many of you guys will be getting the Apple Watch or what your feelings are about it?

I want one but can't envisage wearing one instead of my Rolex unless I'm at the gym.

It's not a compelling product. Looks like they did what they could with the concept but meh.

Iphone 6... Maybe... My 5 is still holding up fine.

I already own two smart watches. They are called G-Shocks. They sync up with the atomic clock and are deathly accurate.

I'll say it again... This "wearable technology", is not a watch. It's just another digital leash. After all, my phone tells time too, and it's not called a pocket watch. This wearable technology is just softening people up to the idea of simply having a chip implanted in your head a few years from now.

Just think... In a few years... The I-Chip. It will do everything. Take a look at your grand kid's future. Resistance is futile...

I, for one, am happy my wrist is one place where I'm not getting digital data. My phone/computer/iPad have taken over my life. But when I look at my wrist, I don't see any tweets. I don't sift through pictures. I can't check email.

And I really like that.

I don't think it looks attractive at all. I was actually pretty surprised at that part. I honestly thought that it would look super high end (for this type of product) and have some "Killer" feature. As of right now, and probably for a long time to come, it's mechanical watches for me aside from the G Shock days.

On another note, the Moto 360 looks 100 times nicer...

yep, Moto 360 actually looks really nice, but I still won't replace my watch with one. I happen to be a Moto X user as well rather than the seemingly iPhone majority. The Mot X is great.

The rubber straps look exactly like those found on the Ikepod watches from 10 years ago.

Why does it have to be either or?

I'll decide when it is actually out, I can see and touch it and learn more about it. Not on the day it is announced.

Perhaps I'll buy one for a couple of quid when the new one comes out in 6 months time.

Curious how good an experience the watch is if you only wear it on occasion. If I'm Apple I build in features that get better the more you use it, making it so eventually the watch is an essential piece of technology. Fitbit is sort of like that- you don't want to leave it off your wrist for a few days because than you won't be accruing data/counting steps/calories, etc. If Apple has a lot of apps like that and the watch is more useful if worn every day, I wonder how many people will start wearing is exclusively.

if today's product releases are representative of aapl's forward ability to innovate, i don't think it's good news at all.

I dont get the excitement myself....whats it going to do that i cant already get from an iphone and other similar products, eg fitness watch. To me its just another disposable gadget that i dont need or want.

What separates the device, Apple’s Tim Cook explained, is something called a “digital crown,” which is basically a dial. You use this crown to zoom in and out of apps, giving you control over the UI. No pinching to zoom or anything like that—those gestures just wouldn’t work on such a small screen. There’s a home button on the side, with rounded edges and a number of bands to choose from.
Funny that you will spend more time winding the Apple Watch than an actual mechanical watch

Don't really get what a the fuss is over this Appke watch...
Really! Who cares???
People aren't going to dump their Rolex watches in favor of this disposable watch that will hold none of its value once the next version comes out.
Those of us who know, understand and appriciate fine timepieces arent going anywhere.
Anyone still have their very first cell phone or video game terminal?
Of course all the techno geeks will want to be the first kids on their block to get an iwatch no matter the cost or how long the line up is.
Rolex isn't going to fold up and disappear over this And those os us loyal to Rolex aren't going anywhere

I do like it, nothing wrong with adding one to the collection, its not an all occasion watch, it is like the system 51 good novelty but it will never replace a true mechanical watch.

I still have an iPhone 4...sooooooo I likely won't. I just purchased a new case for my phone too so I can't upgrade as I don't like wasting money.

I really don't understand the comparison between a $9000 Rolex and a $350 Apple device. Totally different markets and no reason you can't own both. Stop drinking so much swiss kool-aid folks; this is comparing apples to oranges. A lot of people will buy them. That you can count on. So what if it's disposable tech - it sure doesn't stop Apple fanboys from buying new iPhones every year, or Android lovers for that matter.

Its just another variation of the watch. Its not or ever going to be "mechanical OR the tech watch."
Two different animals.
This is much the same as a musician choosing Steinway or Production synthesizer. Both are useful and have their own applications.
I suspect it will get non watch wearers back into watches. I want to play with the watch first before I make my mind up if it is viable to my lifestyle. The NEED for it to work with a iphone5 will probably kill it for me. The whole idea would be not to have to carry a phone as well.

I like the fitness features of it as well as being able to play music when I work out (which I need to do more of..). Is it going to replace my Rolex or any of my other watches? No. It's another watch I'll wear from time to time and will probably be more of a 'tool' watch for when I work out.
