Illumination

Sorry if this has been asked before but how long do submariners tend to keep their "glow" once the lights have gone out? I reckon mine lasts about an hour yet a friend of mine with a pam reckons his keeps for about 8! Is he pulling my leg or is this one point where the sub falls down?

The Illumination is the weak point of most rolexes

The duration depends on how good is the dial charged

You'd think they'd address something that could be corrected so easily! Madness. Cheers Frostie!

It is a bad thing to see seiko watches having ten times better lume

Maxi dials have a better lume and they can hold on better during the night but still it's weak

I just sold my Seamaster 300m which had excellent luminosity. I sold that along with my Cartier Pasha C on Ebay to make my newest purchase this week. My first Rolex. I chose the LV Sub. I love the look but I sure hope I am making a sound choice. Alot of the reviews I have found seem vague.

Not a big fan of any lume other than Tritium tube. Some will post that it last all night after they put it under some high intensity or UV lamp. Who really has the time or energy to do that other than to fool around now and then. Yes, the performance does vary by watch. Panerai sandwich dials do well as does the GMT. Daytona is no so good.

Buy a Ball, MTM or other T-tube watch for nights and dark places.

Agree with you frostie, I could read at night with my old Seiko, two hours in the dark with my Sub and I can hardly tell the time.

My Seiko will light up a dark room all night long, but I can still read my Sub in the dark all night too.

But the Seiko kills it in terms of how much material glows

Unfortunately, I believe that corporate Rolex now looks upon their new watches as jewelry, and lume is just an annoyance that only needs very minor attention..It IS sad when far lesser brands have superior illumination due to a better mix of superluminova than does Rolex...I remember my tritium 1967 GMT when new...Illumination? In any lighting whatsoever it was a torch.
