Very true. A friend of mine was driving for Uber a few nights a week for some extra cash. Uber insures the passenger, but not the car.

After a few months, he asked his insurance agent "how much would my insurance go up if I became an Uber driver?". The agent's reply was "about $5,000 per year".

My friend no longer drives for Uber.

I use It here in Boston only when I'm with my husband or another person. If I'm by myself, I use a cab call app and make sure I have texted confirmation of cab number.

I'm in an UberX now. Much superior to a cab.

Do you give a tip, and if so how much? Maybe we will use it to go to the airport.

No, totally not expected or required. If they help with my bags I tip though; they won't turn a cash tip down.

Thats remarkable. Although NYC Taxi's are cheaper compared to most cities, Uber is definitely more expensive to any of our airports. The benefit is convenience and cleanliness of cars. But then again, just about every car service is cheaper than uber to/from the airport too

Uber has since implemented a flat rate to JFK, no driver I've had knows how to do it so you end up paying big time.
