Problem with new Sub
I bought this sub new in June. Just noticed a irregular spot near the 12 on the ceramic dial. Don't know if there from beginning but I only wear on weekends and am very careful. I looked at it with a magnifying glass and see no evidence of it being chipped and I don't remember hitting it. Now it jumps out at me. Very bummed. This should not happen should it? Lot of money for this watch to be this way. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

sorry, it does look pretty bad. Maybe call Rolex? Also is there a spot by the 9:00 too? Hard to tell from the photos.

Go back to the AD you got it at and see what they say. To my knowledge the ceramic bezels will crack completely when they break, so for a chip to happen may have been from the factory?

maybe those are some kind of white gunk stuck between the bezel insert and the bezel itself.. happened to me though not as huge spots as yours..

What you are seeing is a trick of the eye because of the edge of the circle touching the straight lines of the 12 marker exactly in the middle. When you take pictures of or look at my SubC at the right angle, it appears that the lines of the 12 o'clock marker are not straight either.
Also, under magnification you are bound to see imperfections. Nothing is perfect, not even Rolex. |

Try as I might, I just can't see it . Not that my eyes are as good as they once were..........
If it bothers you, take it to the AD you bought it from. If they won't do anything, IMO, forget about it. There will be more dings/scratches in the future. Gives the watch character. |

Have the AD look at it. If it's a manufacturing error, then it will be covered under warranty.
If the AD gives you any problems, get in touch with RSC. That's the only way to handle problems like this. No one here can do anything, except give advice.

I had something very similar-looking with mine - in my case it was a bit of paint or something stuck down the small gap between the ceramic insert and the metal bezel, no doubt the result of an impact with a painted surface. I was able to pick mine out with a fine needle

That looks like tooth paste stuck between the bezel and the coin edge? Take a better photo, take to ad, and clean with a soft brush first.

You should pursue this with the AD or RSC until you are happy with it.

Thanks for replies. It was/ is something stuck in that area. Looks like paint. I was able to get most of it out, it is still visible at the right angle or under magnifying glass. I will get my ad to get rest next time over there. As for wearing only on weekends, I am an engineer in a paper mill. No one in their right mind would wear a rolex where I am on a daily basis.

I don't really see anything and not quite sure what to see...those two lines between 55 and 12 o'clock? I would have noticed that the minute I picked the watch up if it's what I think. You say you never noticed it, is it possible you banged it on something and maybe paint, wood, plaster, soap or something is just logged in that space.
Doesn't look like a chip but in your hands might be a different story. At this point it's too late to deal with the AD on a quality issue, you wore it already multiple times....at this point at best it's a warranty issue. Bring it in to your AD. |

You've owned it for months, and probably worn it a lot. There is no way you can return it, IMO, and it is so minor I would live with it. You may have caused it without realizing it. That is what they will likely tell you.

Dive with it, as God intended, and see if it's still there after a couple of dives. If it is, take it to your AD and let them have a look at it. It looks to me like it's just some weird substance in the gap, and being submerged and circulated in the water, under pressure, should dislodge it. It may be some residue from sheetrock if you bumped in to a wall or something. It can happen all the time, and you may not have even noticed if you were carrying something, etc.
Nothing cleans up a dive watch like diving with it. Funny, that. |

I don't think it is any manufacturing defect. To my eyes mine looks similar too. If its a minor fault, it is unlikely to have been caused by you as its platinum blasted into ceramic. Just can't worry about such minor things.

Take a toothbrush and some soap & water to it...It's just paint or plaster from a wall or door that's lodged in the space between the insert and the edge of the bezel.

Unless there are safety reasons, I don't see why you won't wear your Sub in work. I am a toolmaker in a machine shop and the Sub is great for timing run cycles on CNC machines. If I have to put my hand in a place where the watch might get caught I take it off and put it in my pocket. Use your watch, enjoy it. It is going to get scratches, but in five or six years when it is time for service RSC will make it like new again.
