FS: Rolex 168000 Submariner Date Transitional Model - Head Only - Barn Find!
For Sale:
Rolex 168000 stainless steel submariner date head-only. The 168000 was a transitional model, slotting between the outgoing 16800 and the new reference 16610 and was the first Sub to be constructed from high grade 904L steel. By most estimates, the 168000 was only produced for about 9 months, making it extremely rare. Serial number 9868xxx is circa 1987. Condition: Totally original unpolished condition with factory bevels still highly visible and original tritium dial, hands, and bezel insert. Although the hands appear to be several shades lighter than the dial in my photos, this is not actually the case. When viewed in person, the hands and dial plots are a much closer match. Also, please note that a small amount of lume has flaked off the 12 o'clock marker. Crystal has two extremely tiny chips along the perimeter that you probably wouldn't notice without a loupe. Overall, I would rate 80% or "good" condition per the TimeZone guidelines. Both the reference number and serial number are crisp and can be clearly read. Service history is unknown. Watch winds smoothly, sets, and runs as it should but I have not had the chance to time it against the atomic clock yet. Accessories: Head-only. No bracelet, box, or paperwork. The modern Rolex box in the photos is just a prop and is not included. Price & Terms: $3795 including domestic overnight shipping with insurance. Bank wire preferred but paypal will be considered if buyer is reputable and agrees to pay the 3% fee. If you don't like my price, make me a reasonable offer. Lowball offers and messages asking for my "best price" will be ignored. As far as references, I have completed many transactions with forum members and have received dozens of positive feedback posts which can be found by searching for my username "NKflyer". Please inquire if further info is needed regarding references. I would prefer not to accept returns unless this watch is significantly not as described so please view pics very carefully and ask any questions you might have before committing to purchase. Private message is the best way to contact me. Thanks! |

There are a couple of offers on the table, but I'd like to get a little closer to asking price. Anybody else interested?
