Is the classic GMT II still in production or not??

Hi, I am a little perplexed as a post I have just been reading here suggested the GMT II classic was still in production. This is totally at odds with a salesman at the Rolex shop in London who said that it was not being produced any more.
Additionally, there does not appear to be a new black or pepsi bezel watch in the UK anywhere (Unless you know better) as I have done quite a lot of ringing around. I know where there is a black/red model and I might make a move tomorrow.
More info needed on this as I would quite like to find one of the ll models that might have the later movement inside.
People are reporting them for sale in locations other than the UK.

Hi Peter, even in Athens where one can still find easily any Pepsi/Coke GMT-II, it is still questionable if one can spot the latest movement; if yes, it is purely a matter of chance.

I am going to get myself a GMT-II there during my trip in a few weeks time, and I don't really care for the movement; I just want one of these beautiful watches before they disappear for ever (I mean sold as new; because you can always find preowned).

Production is done, they are clearing out the stock piles.

I was told by a very trusted person that production was ceased in March 07. But I did see a M series the other day so who knows.

Plenty of them over here....one AD that I went to just yesterday (and I have 5 local ones) had 3 16710's in stock.....one of which, a coke, just delivered from Rolex 3 days ago.......Awful long time to keep stock without shipping it if you ask me.

Hi Peter,

I would go for the black and red bezel ASAP. These original style of Rolex are far more attractive IMHO than some of the latest bling coming from Rolex. I bought one of the last ones just 6 weeks ago from an AD and I think it is brilliant. I went in the dealer to buy a SUB LV and saw a GMT11 on the dealer's wrist. No contest, the GMT stole my heart. I understand also that if you want to have the bezel colour changed to blue/red or black, that these inserts are available to be fitted by an AD. For me the black red does it.

I have yet to see or hear about a Rolex-Rolex-Rolex chapter ring in a 16710, but I have heard of 3186 movements in the late Z or M 16710's. More on this posted here:http://www.minus4plus6.com/paracromblu16710.htm

Peter, Preston and Duckworth in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk have two GMT II's sitting in the window.....one Pepsi and one coke from memory(saw them on Tuesday).

I think Rolex pruduces a bunch of cases for a particualr model and stamps them all at once. But then, they use those cases to build the watches as needed. I believe what happened is this: They made a bunch of cases for the 16710 in 2006-2007, stamped them Z and M, then continued to assemble them until the cases ran out. So in theory, they could still be assembling brand new ones, but not producing anymore.

Thanks for that info, I gave them a ring and they had none!!
In fact they don't stock Rolex but a helpful person gave me the number of Thurlow Champness. I think this is the shop you meant as they still had both watches in stock without any price increase.
I had a nice chat and may pop across tomorrow to eye them up.
The chap still thought they were available too???????
