Incoming Tuna!
By far NOT the greatest incoming in the non-Rolex forum but it's one I've thought out very well and I feel a lot here can appreciate.
I have really wanted a durable quartz beater diver and what better than the SBBN015 with it's tough-as-nails 7c46? Might cost me $250-300 with pressure testing over the next twenty-odd years at which point I may or may not need to have the fully serviceable and jeweled 7c46 serviced. Can't ever say that in a Rolex sentence, can we? I had originally wanted this low-maintence gem for awhile but i'll be damned if the SBDX012 -- the re-release of the SBDX003 which pays homage to Seiko holy grail 6159 -- threw me a considerable curve ball. For those non-seiko fans the SBDX003, which originally paid homage to the 6159, is the Tudor snowflake equivalent (in terms of %value appreciation - it's still a homage) and the 6215 & 6159 are the very rare original holy grails worth their respective prices... In terms of %value appreciation for a Seiko and rarity they are the O.G. MNs. I owned the SBDX001 twice which is the exact same watch in terms of aesthetics to the SBDX012 due to hit the market this January. Although the idea of this LE was very tempting, the SBBN015 makes up for all the reasons I had flipped the SBDX001 in the first place... Not to mention I got in contact with the Big3 JDM sellers for a deposit and they confirmed the price would be $600 more than what I can get the SBDX001 today. The SBDX001 is a great watch on par with any 14060 IMHO in terms of finish, but it does have it's considerable shortcomings that make the 14060 superior in terms of fit. I also intend to get back my 3570.50 or maybe the new full Speedy kit with new ref# and 9300 bracelet? This Tuna gives me the cash to do so sooner than later which is a double win. Who knows? Maybe I'll wait and see if the Apollo 11 50th anniversary model is any bit as special as the 45th (which is badass, btw). I think my collection will be stable enough to wait the five years... Yeah right! I'll post some pictures when she arrives. |
