Open warrantees common?
Are there many AD's that leave warrantees open? Currently, Vandy has a Sub for sale that he bought from Jared's with an open warrantee. My AD refuses to consider such a move, stating a Rolex policy which forbids this practice. They feel that such a move would jeopardize their status as an AD.
I really can't believe that Jared's, a division of Kay's, is even an AD. I'm not big on chain stores and I would much rather deal with owner operated businesses. |

I would rather get my warranty stamped and dated by the AD at time of purchase. Why wouldn't they? so you can fill it in yourself later on to get a longer warranty? Im sure rolex would find out somehow

Do you mean open papers? Some ADs just leave them open in case the customer returns the watch. Not common, but not uncommon either.

U.S. AD's aren't allowed to leave papers open, it's against Rolex Policy. Gray Dealers often deal with Asian AD's and negotiate "open" papers as part of their bulk buying, but the only U.S. AD's that will sell with open papers are those that either don't care about the policy or ignore it. They are few and far beween

My husband DJ has no name nor even date of purchase on his warranty card. I think my AD has forgot because that was the day before Thanksgiving. Which is good, I can fill out the purchase date whenever it needs to be service....that means after 5 years of purchased, it is still under warranty.
So, if I decide to sell his DJ later, whoever buys it be able to fill in the blanks his/herself to get the warranty. Wow....this is better than buying from the ADs |

I bought my GMT at Jared in Houston, and the sales lady also failed to fill in the warranty card. I believe this is because Jared has a 30 day return policy.
I am not sure how useful it is to buy a Rolex with "open papers" from a gray dealer, since I think Rolex USA is very leery this practice. When I recently sent in the GMT to Dallas RSC for regulation, I was asked to send in the original warranty card and original receipt. Outside of the USA, Rolex seems more tolerable of the open or even second hand warranties. There were stories posted here a month ago of non-US RSCs asking no questions to service a second hand Rolex.
