Looking to Buy this Rolex. I need help!!!!
Hello everyone;
I am looking at buying a used Rolex. The model number is 1675/0B. And the serial number is 1820541. It is a GMT Master with original Pepsi Bezel, one link of the band will need to be replaced as it is dented. The watch is 1 owner comes with box but not the original paperwork. It does come with paperwork from Rolex as it was serviced in 2002. As well it comes with a history report from Rolex. I am buying it at a reputable Rolex dealer. I have a couple of questions--- 1) Should it be serviced? It was done in 2002, but has not been worn since. 2) What is a Matt dial? and is it rare? The dial on this watch is an off white. 3) Can you replace just a link of the band? 4) What in your opinion is the value of this watch? Thank you for any help on this as this is my 1st, Rolex. Thanks Brett |

Something's not right if the 1675 has a white dial.

There's only one of them, and it's as rare as t!ts on a bull.
The OP does stste that it's a 1675. Even if it were by chance a Pan Am, it's the wrong reference.

The only... off white dial ...I know is the 6542, Pan American GMT circa 1954. Value for your watch I think around 3 to 4 thousand dollars. |

Hi Brett,
I thought you might be talking about the patina on the dial. The photo you posted is of a 16750,(that one's pretty nice-LOL) A photo of your watch would help a lot, but if you have a 1.8 mil. serial number figure circa 1968 probably non-hacking. Matt dials are not really rare as Rolex switched from gilt/gloss to matt on the GMT around 1967 and continued with it untill the transition to gloss with white gold surrounds circa 1985 (of course with crossover). Depending on the bracelet you have an where the dent is it might be easy to substitute a new link. If you have a very olf 7206 riveted bracelet it's a bit of a job. If you have a newer 78360 that might have gone on at service and it's on of the screw links -- easy fix. At six years probably wouldn't hurt to get it checked though I'd guess you're OK for a while. I'd put your value at around 4K sight unseen--up or down depending on condition. |

Thanks for the reply.
I think i can get the watch for $2500.00 Cad. It is in very good condition other than the dent on the band. I think at that price i cant go wrong. Brett |

Welcome Brett,
Without pix of the actual watch it's difficult to value. $2500 Cad looks like a good deal from Rolex dealer - presumably with some warranty.

I'd consider $2500 for a decent 1675 a good guy deal, depending on condition of course. I've just made a similar deal on a 16750 with a TRFer. Like you said - you can't relly go wrong. There's a difference between wearing a vntage GMT and a GMTIIc by the way. I trid the GMTIIc on and it's a big flashy "look at me" thing. Fine if you can pull it off but in my line of work it would be a bit out of place. An old 1675 or 16750 should blend right in though...I think the acrylic cystal is what tones it down.
Now I should point out I'm talking out of my a$$ a bit here because I haven't actually had the 16750 on my wrist yet, although I have tried on a GMTIIc. I'm stuck in Wales for another 4 weeks, and the watch is at home...in Vancouver. Counting the days..... |

2500$ for a 1675 is almost a dream around here, they use to go from 3.000€ and up!
By the way, that one in the picture looks really nice, good luck! Regards Carlos |

Nice 1675, they seem to have gone up lately in value. Just about 2 years ago, a decent one could be had for about $2300-2500 US; now the price is much higher.

$2500 is quite low in my opinion for that watch.
I'm wondering if that dent in the link in the bracelet may have something to do with the price being so low. I have a feeling that it's not as simple as just removing a link and replacing it with another. Sounds like it's one of the other links with no access to the screws, thus, if you really want to replace that link, you may have to replace the entire bracelet. What's that going to cost? $750? So, like one TRF'er here already quoted, a good GMT II from that period would go for no less than $3000. At $2500 plus an additional $750 for the bracelet and you're already up to $3250!!!! If I were you, I'd go back to the AD, inquire first about the cost of fixing that bracelet, and second, how much a new bracelet plus service-fees will cost on that watch. Make your final decision on this. If you can live with the dent, then the watch is a good deal assuming everything else checks-out. |

More Info on this watch
I received the information from Rolex, the watch was made in between 1966-1968, and it has a 1575 movement. It has been serviced twice, once in 1989 and 2002, both Servicing performed by Rolex.
I thought i could buy it for $2500.00 cad, but it looks like they want closer to $3000.00. What do you think everyone? Thanks |

At $3,000 with an unknown cost of repair, I'd be a little hesitent as I've seen them go for $3,500 or less in good condition from time to time.

Has the watch been worn since '02? If not, I would say wear it for a couple of years after you purchase it and then get it serviced. 5-8 years depending on how much it's being worn.
