IWC 5001 or Big Pilot
Has anyone owned both models?
I am looking to add another to my collection but not sure what. The Big Pilot I have always had an eye on, but same goes for the 5001. the 5001 is simple and I don't seeing it get "old" anytime soon, completely timeless. My fear with the Big Pilot is the large crown, does this get annoying? I am not worried so much about durability as I baby all my timepieces. I work in an office all day, so I am also fine with the 5001 as it is more dressy, but the Big Pilot is more casual, but can look equally as good with a suit, right? Both have great time reserves as well. Should be a tough one. PS. I would consider the black dial/black leather or white dial with gold numbers/ brown leather. This is also another topic for discussion Thanks. |

You have to have a Big wrist to wear the Big Pilot. I like the design but after trying it concluded it was just too BIG.
5001 on the other hand works great on my wrist and I love the model. It works excellent as dressy-sport. |

IWC 5001 or Big Pilot
I wanted to love the BP but there's enough real estate on the dial to build a house! Just looks goofy to me, even though I can carry it. Must be seen in person, I feel you don't grasp the size in pics.
I felt as though I was looking at those playing cards magnified for old ppl !

I will always have a soft spot for the BP. If you have big enough wrists for it, then it's a pleaser.

About wrist size, I have decent size wrists and enormous hands. I have ones yacht clubs, navi worlds and others so the size I am not worried about. It a a big dial and not much bezel so it is also deceiving.

5001, white dial, blue hands = the best.

I had a Big Pilot 5004 for a while. It's a masterpiece of a watch

Both iconic IWC but I prefer the 5001.
