Is the datejust too small?

Thinking about getting a date just as my panerai looks frankly silly with a shirt and tie
I've always loved the DJ since being a kid and now in my early 40s it feels like the right time to pull the trigger but...

Is 36mm just too small for a modem watch?

I tried the dj 2 it it really do anything for me

I wouldn't say its too small, some watches are getting too BIG IMHO. I like the 36mm to 41mm range but its really a personal choice. The DJ is great for shirt/Tie or Tee/Jeans.

No. The Datejust is not too small. In a day and age where so many watch manufacturers are producing large watches, it is refreshing and comforting to know that Rolex still makes a beautiful and timeless piece like the Datejust. It works well with a suit (wearing my DJ and a suit as I type this) and jeans and a T-shirt. A very well rounded watch. The purchase will not be regretted.

I was in the same boat a couple of years ago. I stopped wearing my Pam because the bulk of the thing precluded pretty much anything but a t-shirt. That and the lack of minute markers on the dial drove me a bit nuts.

I bought a nice simple steel 36mm DJ on an oyster bracelet with white Roman dial and never looked back. The size is refreshing and it's nice to see some bracelet either side of the watch case when I look at it.

I say go for it. Presumably you've got other, larger watches to scratch that itch when necessary?

Different strokes but for me the DJ at 36 is a great watch.

depends on wrist size. If you have larger than 7" wrists i think it doesn't look good.

yep , its a funny old world , i have trouble with anything over 38mm , its certainly a strokes for folks thing.

I really like mine. When I first tried it on at the dealer I thought if felt small having been wearing larger watches. In short order I got used to it and now it's my favorite. Since then I have bought a new Sub but I still wear the Date the most often. Just a very comfortable and classic watch.

This my concern I'm a bigger guy but only 7.5. Wrist but it's to be worn with a suit

The great thing about rolex is if it dos'nt get any wrist time it,s easy enough to trade

Go try one on. I think it works well, and I was surprised how light they are. I prefer the AK or OP myself, but that's just a no date thing...

The 36mm datejust is a perfect watch. IMO the 41mm should have been 39mm.

It's not too small. The DJ 36mm is perfect. That is why Rolex has sold a lot of this model/size for decades and will continue to do so in the future.

coming from a panerai its way too small. but i would still get one but i like the datejust2 also. i would just have to have all three

Even though the fashion is going toward larger sizes (even Rolex). I has always been the show case of a watch maker's ability to put as many complications into as small of a watch as possible. Over the last one hundred years or so, that is want made Rolex & Patek Philippe a ledge.

In a few years if I have the money I plan to buy the 36mm not the 42mm president.

Nice pic, mate. I had one and for my 7 wrist it was a bit too small, 41mm is perfect.

Keep in mind the DJ actually wears slightly larger than its 36mm dimensions would suggest. It is a great watch and is certainly not too small. In fact many watches are simply too big nowadays. Yes it will look small at first to you coming from a PAM but after a day or two it will be fine.

You're growing up. Huge watches are for people with truly huge wrists (on whom the watch doesn't look oversized), or anyone in their 20s or early 30s who want an oversized watch and don't know any better. 36mm datejust with jubilee and fluted bezel wears larger than its dimensions, sort of like a 36mm president. Enjoy you can't go wrong.

I found smooth bezel jub DJ's to wear too small fwiw. Smooth bezel oysters wear nicely. Fluted oyster I just haven't tried; always thought of jub with fluted.

I predict the oversized watch with the untucked dress shirt with jeans will go the way of the maroon blazer of the 1990s.

I agree ...in these threads about the DJ, inevitably some one says the DJ2 should of been 39mm. IMO the Daytona fits the bill perfectly.
