The movement appears to be a caliber 1400, the smallest Rolex has made, and as of about 7 years ago Rolex Canada still had all the parts to overhaul it. I had one done for Nancy in 2007. The dial condition is hard to tell from the pic, but if its rough Rolex may choose to send it to a third party dial refinisher who does work for them.

I don't want to get technical, but according to chemistry alcohol IS a solution!

why is it that so many want to reduce everything down to "how much is it going to cost me" ?? If you don't do it, nobody will and a piece of family history will be gone.

So it might cost you a few hundred more than it's market value !! Every time you take your shirts to the laundry you're paying more for the clean and press than their market value.. and you do that week after week..

Very well said.

I would find a replacement movement on ebay, plenty of these watches were scrapped so theres an abundance of these movements For sale, would be a neat watch to get fixed up. I think sourcing a movement on ebay and serviced by an independent can keep the restoration cost on check with the watches value
This might be a direct swap, wrong hands

My sister gave me my gradfather's Citizen from the sixties last year. I had it restored, costed me a few hundred dollars, a few hundred dollars more than it's worth in terms of market value but it is priceless to me. I gave it to my son and he wears it proudly.
