Hi all,

I've been researching the Explorer I (39mm) vs Submariners and went to a few stores to try them all on. I personally like the Sub's look more but I'm worried that it's not going to fit very well with everyday dress shirts and suits (have to wear these to work).

I didn't wear a dress shirt with me when trying them out, but most of the pictures I see on here show that the Sub doesn't really fit under the cuff. This surprises me because I still hear so many people saying Subs go well with suits, etc. Can anyone provide some personal experiences with this? Thanks!

The SS Sub is the generic middle management watch. Everybody has one and wears them at the office. Go count SS Subs at lunch time in the buisness district. Its as popular as a navy blue suit. You will be fine.

I wear my GMT with a suit every week day and have even worn it with a tux so I don't think you will have any problems with a Sub

I guess that this "complaint" could only come from the East Coast..

Sub with a dress shirt, or at the board room, or on the CEO, and all over the red carpets at any "event"...

.......... common as flies on the West Coast..

haha okay I guess the more correct question I want to ask is, does it actually fit under the cuff or not?

Yes it can. On a rare occasion I wear a French Cuff shirt, it isn't a problem. It isn't with button cuffs either

You won't have an issue with a dress shirt. I wear my DSSD and for some shirts it's tight so a sub won't be a problem.

French cuff - definitely. Button cuff really depends on how loose you allow your cuff to be.

That really depends on your wrist size.. I cannot wear a Sub under a dress shirt very often without difficulty. French cuffs are better, but not all of them - it gets snug........

I guess that if you have pencil wrists you can wear any shirt and watch combination...

I always wear a dress shirt at work and it never clashes with my sub. I haven't tried a DSSD on the other hand; that night be an issue.

Next to the DJ, I'd say the Submariner is the most common in a suit under a shirt Rolex around. And looks good doing it.

It depends on the shirt, some makers have a wider cuff opening than others.

Wear a SubC with a dress shirt daily. No problem with fitting under the cuffs.

I wore a 16610 for many years, and then a 116610 for a couple of years every day with dress shirts. You will have no problem! If its between the explorer and Sub-C, I would definitely go with the versatile Sub!

I will admit I only wore it with a suit a couple of times though.

Depends on how tight you like your cuffs. I have some slim tailored shirts where I requested the cuffs have very little allowance. You can see the outline on my GMTII (a bit thinner profile than the Sub) through the cuff but my 39mm explorer slips right under.

I have a few dress shirts that do not accommodate my GMT very well, but my Milgauss fits well under everything. I imagine the Explorer would also fit well under any cuff.

I've worn a Sub, Sea Dweller, Daytona, or GMT every day with a suit for the past 15 years....always worked for me!!

The only exception for Rolex is the DSSD, which some will disagree with....same with PAM for me...just don't fit with a suit IMHO.
